Bayside Academy Sails Past Southside-Selma, Earns 3A Title Game Spot with 51-20 Semifinal Win

FAIRHOPE, AL – The Bayside Academy Admirals (13-1) delivered a powerful performance Friday night, securing a spot in the Class 3A championship game with a decisive 51-20 victory over Southside-Selma. An explosive first quarter and a dominant defensive showing in the second half propelled the Admirals to their 13th consecutive win.

This marks the second time the Admirals have reached the Super 7. Bayside Academy last competed for the Class 3A title in 2015. For Southside-Selma, the loss ends an impressive undefeated run, closing their 2025 season at 13-1 for the second straight year in the semifinals.

Head coach Barrett Trotter, now in his third season at the helm of the Bayside program, has the Admirals riding a 12-game winning streak since a narrow Week 1 loss to St. Michael Catholic.

The Admirals established control early, building a 20-0 lead in the first quarter. Brennan Yamane started the scoring with a 2-yard touchdown run. University of South Alabama commit Noah Cain followed with a 4-yard rushing touchdown and a 60-yard touchdown reception from quarterback David Barnett. Southside-Selma found the end zone before halftime when Kendell Wilson scored on an 8-yard run, making the score 20-8 at the break.

Bayside Academy’s defense defined the third quarter. Monroe Partain intercepted a pass and returned it 48 yards for a touchdown. Later, Cain secured his second touchdown of the night with a 55-yard interception return. The offense also continued its momentum, with Yamane adding two more rushing touchdowns on runs of 2 and 5 yards, bringing his season total to 12.

Despite the loss, Southside-Selma quarterback Kole Moody, who set a new AHSAA single-season passing record with over 5,000 yards, threw two fourth-quarter touchdown passes of 5 and 61 yards to Cedrick Simmons. Moody finished the game 22-of-33 for 231 yards with three interceptions. Simmons recorded 8 receptions for 104 yards, concluding his season with 20 touchdown catches.

Bayside Academy (13-1) will face defending 3A champion Mars Hill Bible (14-0) for the state title. The matchup, scheduled for 11:00 AM on Thursday,  will kick off day two of the 2025 Super 7 Championships at Birmingham’s Protective Stadium.
