Moody Rolls Past Scottsboro 35-10, Earns Second Straight 5A Title Berth

SCOTTSBORO, AL – The Moody Blue Devils secured their place in the AHSAA Class 5A state championship for the second consecutive season, defeating the Scottsboro Wildcats 35-10 on Friday night. The victory in the north semifinal game at Pat Trammell Stadium improves Moody’s record to 12-2.

The game marked the end of a historic run for the Wildcats, who finished their season at 9-5. It was the program’s first appearance in the state semifinals since 1997 and capped a year where they earned back-to-back region titles.

Scottsboro opened the scoring with 9:58 remaining in the first quarter when quarterback Colton Harding connected with Conner Vaden for a 41-yard touchdown. However, the Moody Blue Devils quickly responded. An 18-yard touchdown pass from Jake Lowery to Aubrey Walker, followed by a 4-yard rushing touchdown from Kevin James, gave Moody a lead they would not surrender.

The Wildcats’ final points came from a 32-yard field goal by kicker Cole Raeuchle.

Moody continued to extend its lead throughout the game. Lowery found junior wide receiver Aidden White for a 60-yard touchdown, and James added his second score of the night on an 8-yard run. The Blue Devils’ defense sealed the victory when Noah Hicks returned a fumble 45 yards for a touchdown with just 3:49 left in the contest.

Head coach Jake Ganus’ Blue Devils will now face the Vigor Wolves (12-2) in the Class 5A state championship. Vigor earned its spot by defeating Williamson 28-21 in the south semifinal. The championship game is scheduled for Thursday, December 4th, at 7:00 PM at Birmingham’s Protective Stadium.
