Adrian Abrams Steps Down After Eight Seasons at Minor
ADAMSVILLE, AL – Adrian Abrams announced his resignation as head football coach at Minor High School, closing a remarkable eight-year chapter with the Tenacious Tigers. During his tenure, the Theodore native and former UAB Blazer helped elevate the program, guiding Minor to four playoff appearances and closing out his eight year tenure at 35-47 record while competing in demanding Class 6A, Region 5.
The 2025 campaign showcased the Tigers’ determination, with the team opening the season on a high note—winning four consecutive games and displaying impressive unity and effort. Despite late-season challenges, the effort and growth displayed by the squad were a testament to Abrams’ leadership.
Abrams’ impact on Minor extended beyond the win column. Under his direction, the program achieved significant facility upgrades, including a new field house and state-of-the-art turf field. More importantly, his focus on player development was evident: between 42 and 45 athletes are expected to receive college scholarships by the end of this academic year—a milestone achievement that reflects the values and commitment he brought to the role.

Before taking the helm at Minor in 2018, Abrams earned a reputation as key member of the Hoover Buccaneers staff, serving as assistant head coach under Josh Niblett and helping claim five state championships. At Minor, his postseason runs in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2024 underscored his knack for building competitive, resilient squads.
Abrams delivered an emotional message to the Minor community, expressing pride in the program’s growth, the bonds built, and the positive changes initiated during his time at the helm.
“My time here has been about more than football,” he said. “I have dedicated myself to shaping young men into responsible, productive citizens—prayerfully, future great husbands and fathers. Our staff worked hard to foster a positive environment and help these athletes prepare for success beyond the field.”
While he acknowledged some challenges due to staffing changes and enrollment shifts, Abrams chose to emphasize the strides made under his leadership and the unwavering commitment shown by his coaches and players.
Jefferson County Schools Athletics Director Craig Kanady praised Abrams’ tenure, stating, “Coach Abrams has resigned from his coaching duties at Minor High School. We thank him for his commitment to our student athletes and wish him the best in the future. We will immediately begin the search for a new head football coach.”
