Jackson’s EJ Crowell Named Alabama Gatorade Player of the Year
BIRMINGHAM, AL – Jackson High School senior running back Ezavier “EJ” Crowell has been named the Alabama Gatorade Player of the Year. Known for his standout performances and consistent dominance on the field, Crowell has solidified his place as one of the top high school football players in the state.
A Record-Breaking Season
Crowell led the Jackson Aggies to a 12-2 record and a spot in the Class 4A state championship game. Over 14 games, he rushed for 2,324 yards and 30 touchdowns, averaging 178 yards per game. His career totals include 6,025 rushing yards and 86 touchdowns.
In the Class 4A state title game, Crowell delivered a historic performance, rushing for 304 yards on 25 carries and scoring five touchdowns. He broke the AHSAA record for most rushing yards in a Class 4A title game, previously set in 2000 and was named the game’s Most Valuable Player.
More Than Just an Athlete
Off the field, Crowell has maintained a 3.29 GPA and has volunteered as a youth football coach. His coach, Cody Flournoy, described him as a player with “elite speed, balance, and strength,” adding that his aggressive playing style sets him apart from the competition.
Looking Ahead
Crowell has signed with the University of Alabama and will begin classes in the spring. He is also a top contender for the Alabama Sports Writers Association Mr. Football Award, which will be announced next month. With his high school career now complete, Crowell is set to bring his talents to the collegiate level, where he is expected to make an immediate impact.
