Jason Kervin Takes Over Oak Mountain Football Program
BIRMINGHAM, AL – Oak Mountain High School has announced Jason Kervin as its seventh head football coach. Kervin, a seasoned coach with deep ties to Shelby County, brings a wealth of experience and a history of success to the Eagles as they prepare for the 2026 season.
A native of Shelby County, Kervin grew up immersed in football. His father, DeWayne Kervin, was a longtime head coach, athletic director, and headmaster at Shelby Academy, where he earned a spot in the AISA Hall of Fame. Jason Kervin played quarterback for Shelby Academy, leading the Raiders to their first state championship in 1998.
Kervin’s coaching career spans nearly two decades, including 12 years as an assistant coach at Hoover High School, where he was part of six state championship teams. His offensive strategies helped establish Hoover as a prep powerhouse. He later served as the head coach at Alpharetta High School in Georgia, leading the metro Atlanta program to four playoff appearances in five seasons. Most recently, he worked as the strength and conditioning coordinator at Pelham High School, where he contributed to the team’s return to the Class 6A state playoffs in 2025.
Oak Mountain, which competes in the highly competitive Class 7A Region 3, has faced challenges in recent years, with its last playoff appearance coming in 2021.

The Eagles finished the 2025 season with a 4-6 record, including a 1-6 mark in region play. Despite the challenges, the program has shown signs of progress.
Athletic Director Chris Blight highlighted Kervin’s leadership and vision as key factors in his selection. Kervin’s background in both Alabama and Georgia high school football provides him with a unique perspective on what it takes to succeed at the highest level.
Oak Mountain’s football program, established in 1999, has seen limited postseason success, but Kervin’s arrival brings optimism for the future. His track record of success, combined with his familiarity with the region’s competitive landscape, positions him as a strong fit for the role.
Kervin takes over for former Eagles head coach Shane McComb who led the 7A program to a combined 9-21 over the past three seasons.
Kervin will be Oak Mountain’s fourth head football coach since 2020.
