Opelika Head Football Coach Bryan Moore Steps Down After Two Seasons
OPELIKA, AL – Bryan Moore has stepped down as Opelika High School head football coach, ending a successful two-year tenure. The Opelika City Board of Education accepted Moore’s resignation during an emergency meeting on Dec. 19, 2025. The announcement comes weeks after Moore led the Bulldogs to their first-ever Class 7A state championship game.
Success at Opelika
Moore compiled a 19-7 record during his time at Opelika, including a 10-4 finish in 2025. The Bulldogs’ playoff run included a dramatic 31-28 victory over rival Auburn High School in the state semifinals. Opelika ultimately fell to powerhouse Thompson in the Class 7A title game, but Moore’s leadership revitalized the program and brought the community together.
Before Moore’s arrival, Opelika had not achieved a 10-win season since 2020.
Coaching career
Moore, a graduate of Springwood School and Auburn University, began his coaching career at Opelika in 2007 as a ninth-grade football assistant coach and head basketball coach. He later took on head coaching roles at several schools across Alabama.
- Eufaula High School (2015-2017): Moore’s first head coaching position resulted in a 26-9 record and three playoff appearances over three seasons.
- Jasper High School (2018-2019): Moore led the Vikings to a 22-3 record over two seasons, with his teams going undefeated in region play and claiming region titles in both seasons.
- Hartselle High School (2020-2023): At Hartselle, Moore compiled a 38-9 record over four seasons, leading the program to multiple deep playoff runs and a pair of region crowns.
- Opelika High School (2024-2025): Returning to Opelika in 2024, Moore quickly turned the Bulldogs into contenders, culminating in a trip to the Class 7A state championship game in his second and final season.
