Darrell LeBeaux Takes Over Huffman Football Program
BIRMINGHAM, AL — Huffman High School has officially named Darrell LeBeaux as the new head football coach of the Vikings football program. The Birmingham Board of Education approved the appointment on January 13, 2026, marking a pivotal moment for a team that has struggled to find consistent success in recent years.
LeBeaux brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record to the Magic City program. Most recently, he served as the offensive coordinator and assistant head coach at Hoover High School.
Before his lone season with the Bucs, LeBeaux served as head coach at Pleasant Grove High School from 2018 to 2024. During his seven seasons at the helm of the Spartans program, he compiled a 75-16 record, leading the team to the Class 5A playoffs every year. Under his leadership, Pleasant Grove reached three consecutive state championship games from 2019 to 2021, securing regional titles in 2021 and 2024 and posting a 19-7 mark in region play.

Huffman, which has not had a winning season since 2005, is looking to LeBeaux to revitalize its football program. The Vikings have won just five games in the past five years, and LeBeaux’s appointment signals a commitment to turning the program around. He replaces Rodney Bivins Jr., who went 3-27 during his three seasons leading the program.
“We are excited to welcome Coach LeBeaux and his family to Huffman,” said Steve Ward, Huffman’s Athletic Director. “His experience, leadership, and passion for developing student-athletes make him the right leader to guide our program forward.”
LeBeaux will be officially introduced during a press conference titled “The Opening Drive” on January 15 at Viking Arena. The event will provide an opportunity for the community to hear directly from the new coach about his vision for the program. According to Ward, the theme of the event—“The Opening Drive”—symbolizes energy, direction, and purpose, qualities that LeBeaux is expected to bring to the team.
