Keon Handley Elevated to Head Football Coach at Carver-Birmingham
BIRMINGHAM, AL — Carver High School has officially announced Keon Handley as its sixth head football coach, marking a pivotal moment for the Rams as they aim to build on recent success on the gridiron.
Handley, takes the helm of the Rams program following a one year stint as Carver’s offensive coordinator in 2025,. Handley replaces Rod Carson, who led the Rams to a 6-3 record in 2025, marking the Magic City program’s first winning season since 2017.

The Miles College alum’s head coaching journey began at Selma High School, where he led the Class 6A Saints to a 1-9 record in 2016 before making the move to Fairfield. From 2017 to 2021 he guided the Tigers to three playoff appearances while posting an overall 22-31 record over five seasons.. Most recently, he led Fultondale High School from 2023 to 2024, compiling a 6-14 record and a trip to the Class 4A playoffs over two seasons.

Carver High School has seen a resurgence in its athletic programs in recent years. The school’s basketball team captured a state championship in 2021, and its track team won the 4×100-meter relay in the Class 5A state competition last year. The football team has also made back-to-back playoff appearances, signaling a promising foundation for Handley to build upon.
Handley’s head coaching record currently stands at 29-54 with four postseason appearances over eight seasons as a head coach.
