MOBILE, AL – The AHSAA State Tennis Championships reached a pivotal stage on Thursday on the gulf coast at the Mobile Tennis Center. Teams battled for crucial points to secure their spots in Friday’s championship rounds. Mountain Brook High School commands the Class 6A leaderboards for both boys and girls. Meanwhile, Covenant Christian and Shoals Christian established themselves as the 1A/3A tennis leaders.

The 81st AHSAA State Championships will conclude the 2026 tennis season with high-stakes semifinal and final matches. Expect champions to lift their trophies by early Friday afternoon. Mountain Brook Tennis Dominates Class 6A

Mountain Brook High School continues to build its impressive tennis legacy. The Spartans carry significant momentum and large point leads into the 2026 tennis finals.

The Mountain Brook girls posted 38 points on Thursday to take first place. Decatur follows in second with 32 points, and Northridge holds third with 26 points. The Spartans look to capture their sixth consecutive Class 6A title, having won every year from 2021 to 2025. The program also claims three Class 7A titles from 2017 to 2019.

On the boys’ side, Mountain Brook leads the pack with a commanding 42 points. Jasper currently sits in second place with 35 points, while Northridge rounds out the top three with 32 points. The Spartans boys’ team enters Friday aiming to defend their state crown and secure their fourth consecutive Class 6A championship.

Covenant and Shoals Christian Pace 1A/3A Tennis Leaders

The Class 1A/3A competition features tight races across the board. The Covenant Christian boys’ team totaled 36 points on Thursday to take the outright lead. Lauderdale County trails closely with 34 points, and Whitesburg Christian stays in the hunt with 31 points.

In the girls’ division, Shoals Christian established dominance early, leading the field with 34 points. St. Luke’s Episcopal secured second place with 26 points. Three-time defending state champion Lauderdale County remains a major threat, sitting just one point behind St. Luke’s with 25 points.

Standout Players Prepare for Semifinal Action

Several undefeated players and defending champions take the court on Friday morning to punch their tickets to the finals.

In Class 1A/3A boys’ singles, defending champion Johni Knerr of Tuscaloosa Academy advanced to the semifinals. Knerr will face Ryen Walker of Whitesburg Christian, who brings a flawless 19-0 record into the match. Covenant Christian’s Gray McCoy (21-6) meets Lauderdale County’s John Paul Nix (12-11) on the other side of the bracket.

Class 1A/3A defending girls’ champion Ella Bentley of St. Luke’s continues a historic run. Bentley holds a perfect 25-0 record this season and boasts an astonishing 101-2 record over her last four seasons. She brings a 52-match winning streak into her semifinal clash with Mars Hill Bible’s Kate James, who holds an impressive 32-2 record. Shoals Christian’s Mamie Bachelor (23-11) takes on Lauderdale County’s Lizzie Turner (13-13) in the other girls’ semifinal match.

The Class 6A girls’ bracket features undefeated Rachel French (18-0) of Homewood squaring off against Claire Maniscalco (28-4) of Oxford. Mountain Brook’s Olivia Roberts (15-10) faces Gulf Shores’ Tereza Mojs (13-6).

For the 6A boys, Helena’s Asher Eaton (11-6) plays Northridge’s Will Thom (16-2). Mountain Brook’s Quint Freeman (20-4) meets Pike Road’s Luke Wallace (24-6).
