Lamar County Bulldogs Dominate to Secure First-Ever AHSAA Class 2A Softball Championship
OXFORD, AL – History was made at Choccolocco Park on Thursday as the Lamar County Bulldogs clinched their first-ever AHSAA Class 2A state softball championship in commanding fashion. The Bulldogs, led by eighth-grade pitching sensation Harper Myers, delivered a flawless performance, going undefeated in the tournament and capping it off with a 10-0 mercy-rule victory over North Sand Mountain in the championship game.
The Bulldogs (40-11-3), under the guidance of head coach Steven Brock, showcased their dominance throughout the tournament. Myers, who pitched a one-hitter in the final, was the star of the show. She not only struck out multiple batters but also contributed offensively, driving in a run to help secure the title. Lamar County’s offense was relentless, tallying nine hits and scoring in each of the first five innings to seal the mercy-rule win.
Lynley Butts led the offensive charge with three hits and two RBIs, while Alexia Kirkpatrick recorded the lone hit for North Sand Mountain. The Bulldogs’ defense and pitching were impenetrable, with Myers delivering a masterclass in the circle.
A Day of Triumph and Tenacity
Earlier in the day, Lamar County secured their spot in the championship game with a gritty 3-0 win over Sumiton Christian in the winner’s bracket finals. Myers pitched a complete game, striking out eight batters and allowing no runs. Despite being held to just four hits, the Bulldogs capitalized on key opportunities, with runs driven in by Myers, Madi Beard, and a defensive error by Sumiton Christian.
North Sand Mountain (32-20-1), coached by Eugene Crawford, fought valiantly to reach the finals. The Bison clawed their way out of the consolation bracket, defeating J.U. Blacksher 14-11, G.W. Long 8-4, and Sumiton Christian 5-4 in a series of high-stakes games. However, their momentum was no match for Lamar County’s precision and power in the championship showdown.
A Historic Moment for Lamar County
The victory marks a significant milestone for Lamar County High School, as the Bulldogs etched their name in the history books with their first state softball title. The team’s journey to the championship was a testament to their resilience, teamwork, and unwavering determination.
“This is a dream come true for our program,” said Coach Brock. “The girls worked tirelessly all season, and to see it all come together on this stage is incredibly rewarding. Harper [Myers] was phenomenal, and every player contributed to this historic win.”

With a young core led by Myers, the future looks bright for Lamar County softball. The Bulldogs have set a new standard for excellence and will undoubtedly be a team to watch in the coming seasons.
