Arab Blanks Rival Guntersville 14-0 in 2026 Season Opener

GUNTERSVILLE, AL — The Arab Knights opened the 2026 season with a statement on the road, riding a stingy defense to a 14-0 shutout of arch rival Guntersville on Friday night at Chorba-Lee Stadium.

The win marks the Knights 8th consecutive season opening victory.  Guntersville will begin their season with a loss for the first time since falling to the Handley Tigers in the AHSAA Kickoff Classic in 2021.  

The victory also snapped the Knights’ two-game losing streak to the Wildcats and marked Arab’s first shutout of Guntersville since a 14-0 victory in 2012. 

First Half Shutout

The first half ended in a scoreless 0-0 deadlock. Both defenses held firm through the opening two quarters, with neither offense finding the end zone. When the teams headed to the locker room, defense had controlled the night.

Neither offense found the end zone in the first half. Both teams struggled to sustain drives, and each scoring threat was turned away by the opposing defense.

Looking Ahead

Arab returns home to Brindlee Mountain next week to host the Class 4A Ardmore Tigers (1-0) in a non-region contest. The Knights open Class 5A, Region 8 play Sept. 4 with a road trip to cross-county rival Albertville.

First year Wildcats head coach Will Lang will look to pick up his first victory next Friday night as Guntersville opens Class 4A, Region 8 play, hosting the Sardis Lions (0-1) at Chorba-Lee Stadium.
