Kameron Murphy Runs for 240 Yards, 4 TDs as No. 3 Parker Routs Mortimer Jordan 42-13
BIRMINGHAM, AL – A dominant fourth quarter turned a comfortable lead into a runaway victory Friday night, as Class 5A No. 3 Parker pulled away from visiting Mortimer Jordan for a 42-13 win. Behind a punishing ground game and a defense that lived in the backfield, the Thundering Herd improved to 2-1 and served notice that their offense can wear down opponents over four quarters.
Herd Grinds Out an Early Edge
Parker set the tone with the run, and it never let up. By the end of the night, the Thundering Herd had piled up 415 rushing yards, controlling the clock and the field position that comes with it.
Kameron Murphy was the engine. The senior back needed only 12 carries to gain 240 yards, breaking off big gains that repeatedly flipped the field. He also proved dangerous as a receiver, hauling in two passes for 70 yards.
The defense matched the offense’s intensity. Demetrius Terrell was a constant problem for Mortimer Jordan up front, recording four sacks and disrupting the visitors’ rhythm before drives could develop. Jonah Carroll added an interception, capping a night in which Parker’s stop unit tilted the game.
Mortimer Jordan Hangs Around Through Three
Trailing 20-3 after three quarters, Mortimer Jordan (2-1) stayed within striking distance for much of the night by leaning on quarterback Blaze Neely. He completed 15 of 32 passes for 151 yards and added 51 yards on the ground, giving the offense a dual-threat spark.
Neely spread the ball among his top targets. Tanner Rice led the receiving corps with four catches for 61 yards, while Conner Helm chipped in three grabs for 43 yards. Zavier Burrow provided a jolt with a 29-yard reception. The pieces were there, but Parker’s front seven kept the drives from turning into points.
Fourth-Quarter Surge Breaks It Open
The game tightened only on the scoreboard, not on the field. Parker held a 20-3 edge entering the final period, then blew the door open with 22 fourth-quarter points to remove any doubt.
Murphy did much of the damage, finishing with three rushing touchdowns and one receiving score for four total. His combination of speed and power proved too much for a Mortimer Jordan defense that had spent three quarters chasing him. As the fourth quarter wore on, Parker’s offensive line pushed the pace, and the Herd’s lead ballooned from comfortable to commanding.
By the final whistle, the numbers told the story: 415 rushing yards, four Murphy touchdowns and a defense that recorded four sacks and a takeaway.
Looking Ahead
Parker (2-1) hits the road next week for a matchup at Jackson-Olin, carrying momentum from a performance that showcased both its ground attack and its pass rush.
Mortimer Jordan (2-1) also travels, heading to Cullman as it looks to bounce back. Despite the loss, the visitors flashed enough offensive balance through Neely and his receivers to suggest better nights are ahead.
