Leeds Rolls Past Sylacauga 57-7

SYLACAUGA, AL – Leeds turned a road trip to Legion Stadium into a highlight reel Friday night, burying Sylacauga 57-7 behind a near-flawless passing attack and a punishing ground game. The Green Wave piled up 591 total yards and answered an opening-week loss with a statement performance, evening their record at 1-1 heading into a marquee home date.

The night belonged to Leeds from the opening kickoff. Two quarterbacks combined to complete 20 of 21 throws, while three different backs broke off chunk runs. Sylacauga, playing at home, could not slow a Green Wave offense that scored in every phase and rarely faced a third down of consequence.

Fast Start Sets the Tone

Leeds wasted little time asserting control. Quarterback Bennett Schorfhaar carved up the Sylacauga secondary early, connecting with a mix of receivers to move the chains at will. Schorfhaar finished a perfect first half in the making, hitting 16 of 17 passes for 273 yards and four touchdowns.

Taylon Gaiter emerged as his favorite target, hauling in eight catches for 142 yards and two scores. Jacauri Swain matched him in the end zone with two touchdowns of his own, reeling in six passes for 120 yards. The two receivers alone accounted for 262 receiving yards, giving Leeds explosive plays on nearly every drive.

Ground Game Piles On

While the passing attack drew the headlines, Leeds ran the ball with equal authority, racking up 247 rushing yards. Jacarrious Davis led the charge with 88 yards on just eight carries and a touchdown, averaging 11 yards a pop.

Brennan Archer added a workhorse effort, grinding out 85 yards on 14 carries and staying busy on the ground and through the air. Braxtin McClain provided the biggest spark per touch, gaining 68 yards on only two carries and stretching the field whenever he touched it.

Second Quarterback, Same Result

Leeds’ depth showed when Archer stepped behind center in the passing game. He completed all four of his attempts for 71 yards and a touchdown, keeping the offense humming without a hitch. The Green Wave’s 344 passing yards came at a staggering 95 percent completion rate across both quarterbacks, a rare mark at any level.

By the time the reserves entered, Leeds had built a commanding cushion. Sylacauga managed to reach the end zone once, avoiding a shutout, but the Aggies spent most of the night chasing a scoreboard that kept climbing.

Sylacauga Searches for Answers

The lopsided result stings for a Sylacauga program that hosted the matchup with high hopes. The Aggies struggled to sustain drives and could not keep pace with Leeds’ balance and tempo. Their lone touchdown offered a bright spot, but the defense had few answers for a Green Wave attack that hit from every angle.

Sylacauga will look to regroup and clean up the mistakes that piled up quickly against a sharp opponent. The talent gap on this night was clear, yet the season remains young enough for the Aggies to reset and build.

Looking Ahead

Leeds (1-1) returns home next week for its toughest test yet, hosting Class 4A No. 5 Central-Clay County (1-1). The matchup pits two teams with identical records but plenty on the line, and the Green Wave will need the same efficiency they showed Friday to knock off a ranked opponent.
