Spain Park Rolls Past Oak Mountain 42-21

HOOVER, AL – Spain Park’s ground game did the heavy lifting Friday night, powering the seventh-ranked Jaguars to a 42-21 rout of visiting Region 3 rival Oak Mountain.

The Class 6A Jaguars piled up 531 total yards — 331 of them on the ground — to move to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in region play. Oak Mountain dropped to 1-2 and 0-1, unable to keep pace after Spain Park bolted to a big early lead.

Jags Fast Start Sets the Tone

Spain Park wasted no time. The Jaguars raced to a 21-0 advantage before the first quarter ended, mixing a punishing run game with quarterback Nash Davis’ sharp passing. By the time Davis and the offense pushed the lead to 28-0 with 9:53 left in the second quarter, the Eagles were already scrambling to respond.

CJ Davis was the engine. The tailback carried just 11 times but broke off 184 yards and a pair of touchdowns, averaging nearly 17 yards a pop.

Oak Mountain Answers, But Trails Big at the Half

The Eagles finally reached the scoreboard with 4:27 left in the second quarter, when Kentrell Tolbert bulled in from 6 yards out to cut the deficit to 28-7. Tolbert was Oak Mountain’s steadiest weapon all night, finishing with 20 carries for 183 yards.

Spain Park had an answer before the break, tacking on another score to take a commanding 35-7 lead into halftime.

Davis Directs a Balanced Attack

Nash Davis finished 13 of 20 for 200 yards and three touchdowns, spreading the ball around efficiently. Barrett Price hauled in a game-high eight catches for 103 yards and a score. Connor Greb added two grabs for 33 yards and a touchdown, and Brody Smith reeled in an 11-yard scoring toss. Hudson Hibbard chipped in a rushing touchdown to round out the Jaguars’ production.

For Oak Mountain, quarterback Charlie Vacarella completed 9 of 19 passes for 133 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. He connected with Okoye Walker on four receptions for 80 yards and a score, and found Tripp Smith on a 7-yard touchdown strike.

Jaguars Defense Sets the Edge

Spain Park’s defense kept the pressure on throughout. Jonathan Roberto led the way with five tackles, while Israel Anders added four stops, two behind the line of scrimmage. Marquis Evans chipped in three tackles, and Jaylen Bates and Ryan Harvey each recorded a sack.

Oak Mountain’s defense had its bright spots despite the lopsided score. William Yoder posted five tackles, Cooper Campbell added 4.5 tackles with one for a loss, and Joseph Junkin recovered a fumble.

Looking Ahead

Spain Park carries its unbeaten record and top-10 ranking into next week’s slate, with region momentum firmly on its side. Oak Mountain will look to steady itself and pick up a first region win as it works to climb back into the Region 3 picture.
