Thompson Routs Vestavia Hills 49-0 as Trent Seaborn Breaks AHSAA Passing Record
ALABASTER, AL — Thompson turned its region opener into a night for the record books, blanking Vestavia Hills 49-0 on Friday, Sept. 4, 2026, while senior quarterback Trent Seaborn became the AHSAA’s all-time career passing yards leader. The Week 3 win came on Thompson’s Senior Night, adding an extra layer of meaning to a performance the Warriors controlled from start to finish.
Seaborn, an Alabama commit, entered needing 257 yards to pass Piedmont’s Jack Hayes and his mark of 11,024 career yards. He crossed the threshold early in the third quarter, connecting with Darion Moseley to move the chains and rewrite the state record book.
Warriors Set the Tone Early
Thompson never trailed, building its lead behind a sharp, efficient passing game and a defense that pitched a shutout. By halftime, the Warriors already led by four touchdowns, giving Seaborn a comfortable cushion as the record chase moved into the third quarter.
Seaborn spread the ball around all night. Moseley, Dedrick Kimbrough and CJ Cowley each hauled in touchdown passes as Thompson piled up 453 total yards. When Seaborn reached the record on his throw to Moseley, coach Mark Freeman pulled him to a standing ovation and handed the offense to sophomore Jahari Nation.
Standout Performances
Seaborn finished 18 of 21 for 264 yards and three touchdowns before his early exit. The night pushed his career completions total to 814, another state record, and moved him within striking distance of the career attempts mark held by former Pinson Valley star and current NFL quarterback Bo Nix. Nix owns the record with 1,223 attempts; Seaborn now sits at 1,190. His 114 career touchdown passes rank sixth all time in Alabama history.
Thompson’s defense matched the offense. Jonathan Hayes led the way with seven tackles as the Warriors held Vestavia Hills off the scoreboard.
Vestavia Hills struggled to find rhythm against a stingy Thompson front. Quarterback Hudson Mote managed 50 passing yards, and Clayton Cox paced the Rebels’ defense with five tackles. Despite the lopsided score, the Rebels arrived as one of the state’s stronger programs, and the shutout said as much about Thompson’s ceiling as it did about a rough night for the visitors. The Shelby County Reporter captured the significance of Seaborn’s achievement in its coverage.
Standings and Season Outlook
The victory lifted Thompson to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in region play. The Warriors hold the No. 1 ranking in Alabama and check in at No. 17 nationally, cementing their status as the team to beat in what many consider the toughest region in the state. Each week brings a serious test, and Thompson will need to keep that edge to chase another deep playoff run.
Vestavia Hills dropped to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in the region. The Rebels still carry a No. 3 ranking in Alabama, and one loss in a brutal region hardly ends their season. How they respond will shape their outlook over the coming weeks.
Looking Ahead
Thompson hits the road next week, visiting Spain Park on Sept. 11. Vestavia Hills returns to Thompson Reynolds Stadium to host Oak Mountain, hoping to bounce back and get their region campaign back on track.
