Jack Floyd’s Four TD Passes Power Hewitt-Trussville to 49-0 Rout of Tuscaloosa County, Delivers Josh Floyd’s 200th Win

NORTHPORT, AL — Quarterback Jack Floyd threw four touchdown passes and Hewitt-Trussville scored on three of its first four snaps Friday night, cruising to a 49-0 win over Tuscaloosa County that gave coach Josh Floyd the 200th victory of his career.

The Huskies (3-1, 2-0 Class 6A, Region 3) needed only a handful of plays to bury the Wildcats, piling up 28 points in the first quarter and never looking back. For Josh Floyd, the shutout marked a milestone win — his 101st at Hewitt-Trussville to go with 99 earned during his years coaching in Arkansas.

Fast Start Sets the Tone

Hewitt-Trussville opened by forcing a three-and-out, then wasted no time cashing in. Two plays later, Jack Floyd found senior tight end Jackson Martin for a 5-yard touchdown, putting the Huskies up 7-0 with 9:40 left in the first quarter.

The scoring came in bunches. Floyd connected with Martin again, this time for a 49-yard strike, then hit senior receiver DJ Hall on a 50-yard touchdown to make it 21-0 with 3:45 still on the first-quarter clock. Sophomore running back Daniel Williams capped the early surge with a 10-yard scoring run in the final minute of the period, giving Hewitt a 28-0 lead built on just eight offensive plays.

Wildcats Threaten, Huskies Answer

Tuscaloosa County showed some fight in the second quarter, stringing together its best drive of the night and pushing inside the red zone. The Wildcats came up empty, though, turning the ball over on downs after Hewitt’s defense stuffed a fourth-and-5 near the goal line.

The Huskies made them pay. Starting deep in their own territory, they marched 93 yards in about three minutes, with Floyd firing a 20-yard touchdown pass to junior receiver Henry Farrell to push the lead to 35-0 at halftime.

Defense Slams the Door

Hewitt-Trussville’s defense held firm the rest of the way, keeping Tuscaloosa County off the scoreboard while the offense added two more touchdowns in the second half. Williams found the end zone again on the ground, giving him a pair of rushing scores to complement Floyd’s four passing touchdowns.

The 49-0 final capped a complete team performance and underscored why the Huskies remain among the top programs in Class 6A.

Tough Season Continues for Tuscaloosa County

The loss dropped Tuscaloosa County to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in Region 3. The Wildcats have been outscored 217-7 through their first four games, a stretch that has tested a young program still searching for its first win. The red-zone drive in the second quarter offered a glimpse of progress, even if the scoreboard did not reflect it.

Looking Ahead

The road doesn’t get any easier for Tuscaloosa County. The Wildcats travel next Friday to face top-ranked Thompson, the defending state champion, in Alabaster — a daunting test against one of the state’s premier teams.

Hewitt-Trussville, meanwhile, returns home to host Prattville. Riding a three-game winning streak and a perfect region mark, the Huskies will look to build on their momentum and keep pace at the top of Region 3.
