Max Fowler’s Four First-Half Touchdowns Power UMS-Wright Past Faith Academy 35-10

MOBILE, AL — Quarterback Max Fowler put on a first-half clinic Friday night, accounting for four touchdowns to lift the UMS-Wright Bulldogs to a 35-10 win over the visiting Faith Academy Rams.

Fowler threw for three scores and ran for another, all before halftime, as UMS-Wright grabbed its third straight victory. The Bulldogs improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in Private Class AA, Region 1. Faith Academy slipped to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in region play.

Bulldogs Set the Tone Early

UMS-Wright wasted no time. On its opening possession, the Bulldogs marched 80 yards on 11 plays, capping the drive with a 19-yard scoring strike from Fowler to John Bloch. Mack Keaton punched in the two-point conversion to make it 8-0.

The lead grew quickly. Fowler soon connected with Ty Mabrey on a 21-yard touchdown pass. The extra-point attempt failed, leaving the Bulldogs ahead 14-0.

Defense set up the next score. Thomas Delong picked off a Faith Academy pass early in the second quarter, and Fowler cashed in with an 11-yard touchdown run. The point-after kick pushed the margin to 21-0.

Rams Undone by Miscues

Faith Academy flashed some offensive ability but struggled to string together drives. Mistakes proved costly. A high snap sailed over the quarterback’s head and was recovered by Keaton, setting up a 7-yard Fowler touchdown pass to Illijah Scott. That made it 28-0.

The Bulldogs added one more before the break. With two minutes left in the half, a muffed punt caromed off a Faith blocker and rolled into the end zone, where Buddy Mostellar fell on it for the score. UMS-Wright led 35-0 at halftime.

Second Half Belongs to the Rams

With the game decided, UMS-Wright coach Sam Williams turned to his younger players for most of the second half. Faith Academy took advantage, finding the rhythm that had eluded it earlier.

The Rams put together a couple of solid drives, converting a field goal in the third quarter. In the fourth, Scott Murrill broke free for a 65-yard touchdown run that gave the visitors their final points and set the score at 35-10.

Coach Gaines Sullivan’s team showed fight in the closing quarters, moving the ball and refusing to fold after the lopsided first half. Cleaning up early mistakes and red-zone stalls figures to be a focus as the Rams look to turn the corner in region play.

Looking Ahead

UMS-Wright stays home next Friday for its homecoming game, hosting Houston Academy of Dothan in a region matchup. The Bulldogs will look to keep their winning streak alive and stay unbeaten in region play.

Faith Academy also returns home, drawing a region test against McGill-Toolen. The Rams will aim for their first region win of the season.
