St. Paul’s Episcopal Powers Past Glenwood 38-33 in Region Thriller
Behind a punishing ground game, the St. Paul’s Episcopal Saints rallied from a 10-point halftime hole to knock off the Glenwood Gators 38-33 on the road Friday night. The comeback snapped Glenwood’s three-game winning streak and gave the Saints a signature win in Double-A Private Region 1 play.
A Two-Headed Backfield Takes Over
The story of the night was written on the ground. Ty Sellers and Roberts Law combined for 396 rushing yards, wearing down the Gators’ front as the game wore on.
Sellers carried the load with 210 yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries. Law matched him nearly step for step, piling up 186 yards and a score on 18 attempts. That balance kept Glenwood’s defense guessing and let St. Paul’s control the clock down the stretch.
Gators Grab the Early Edge
Glenwood came out sharp and built a 27-17 lead by halftime. The Gators moved the ball with confidence and looked every bit the part of a team riding a three-game surge, taking a two-possession advantage into the locker room.
Saints Flip the Script After the Break
The second half belonged to the visitors. St. Paul’s leaned on Sellers and Law to chew up yardage and flip field position, chipping into the deficit drive by drive.
Will Abrams punched in a 1-yard touchdown run to cap one key march, while Carson Stephens hauled in a 16-yard reception to keep the chains moving during the rally. As the Saints kept pounding the rock, the momentum shifted for good, and the 27-17 halftime deficit turned into a 38-33 road win.
Where It Leaves Both Programs
The victory pushed St. Paul’s to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in Double-A Private Region 1, giving the Saints a needed boost as region play heats up.
Glenwood, meanwhile, saw its winning streak end but remains in solid shape at 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the region. The Gators still have plenty to build on despite the loss.
Looking Ahead
St. Paul’s returns home next week to host St. Michael Catholic, aiming to carry the momentum from this comeback into another region test.
Glenwood travels to the Capital City for a matchup at Montgomery Catholic, looking to bounce back and get its region push back on track.
