VESTAVIA HILLS, AL – Vestavia Hills grabbed control early and never gave it back, downing Spain Park 30-7 on Friday night at Thompson Reynolds Stadium in a Class 6A, Region 3 clash. Quarterback Charlie Taaffe accounted for three touchdowns as the Rebels leaned on a punishing ground game to wear down the Jaguars over four quarters.

Fast Start Sets the Tone

Vestavia Hills wasted little time. Taaffe capped the Rebels’ opening surge with a 29-yard touchdown run, then added a 15-yard scoring scamper later in the first quarter. Kicker Sloan Morgan tacked on a 28-yard field goal to make it 17-0 after one period.

The lead only grew before the break. Morgan connected on field goals of 22 and 29 yards in the second quarter, sending the Rebels into halftime with a comfortable 23-0 cushion. His perfect night on special teams kept the scoreboard ticking while the offense controlled the clock.

Jaguars Answer, Rebels Respond

Spain Park found the end zone in the third quarter when CJ Davis punched in a 6-yard touchdown run, trimming the deficit to 23-7 and giving the visitors a spark. The response from Vestavia Hills was swift. Taaffe hit Price LaMaster on a 19-yard touchdown pass to restore the three-score margin at 30-7, quieting any hopes of a Spain Park comeback.

From there, the Rebels turned to their run game to bleed the clock and close out the win.

Defensively, Clayton Cox came up with an interception, and Daniel Richardson and Ben Ponder each recorded four tackles.

Hudson Hibbard chipped in 14 carries for 66 yards, and quarterback Nash Davis completed 7 of 13 passes for 26 yards.
