Top-Ranked Thompson Warriors Crush Tuscaloosa County 62-7 to Move to 5-0

ALABASTER, AL — The top-ranked Class 6A Thompson Warriors left no doubt from the opening whistle Friday night, rolling past winless Tuscaloosa County 62-7 to stay perfect at 5-0. University of Alabama commitment and AHSAA record-holder Trent Seaborn set the tone early, completing 13 of 14 passes for 216 yards and four touchdowns before giving way to the backups in the second quarter.

Thompson led 41-0 at the half and pushed the margin to 62-0 before the Wildcats finally reached the end zone with 2:45 left in the game. The win kept the Warriors unbeaten in 6A Region 3 at 3-0, while Tuscaloosa County dropped to 0-5 overall and 0-3 in region play.

Warriors Strike First and Never Slow Down

Thompson’s defense set the tone before the offense ever took the field. On the Wildcats’ opening possession, Conner Williams jumped a Kaleb Marcum pass for the first of his two interceptions, handing the Warriors the ball deep in Tuscaloosa County territory. Two plays later, Seaborn found Darion Moseley for a 42-yard touchdown strike to make it 7-0.

From there, the Warriors turned the game into a first-quarter clinic. CJ Cowley punched in a 3-yard scoring run, and Seaborn added touchdown passes of 22 yards to Dedrick Kimbrough and 34 yards to Moseley. By the end of the opening period, Thompson had built a commanding 28-0 lead behind crisp, efficient drives.

Seaborn Signs Off, Backups Keep Rolling

Seaborn capped his night early in the second quarter with a 20-yard touchdown pass to Bralen Coleman, then headed to the sideline for good. His final line — 13-for-14, 216 yards and four scores — underscored why he ranks among the state’s most decorated quarterbacks.

Backup Jahari Nation stepped in without missing a beat. He completed all five of his attempts for 58 yards and two touchdowns, hitting Coleman from 3 yards out to send Thompson into halftime ahead 41-0, then connecting with Tristan Mosley on an 18-yard scoring pass in the second half.

Ground Game Spreads the Wealth

Thompson’s rushing attack proved just as balanced as its passing game. The Warriors piled up 187 yards on the ground with seven different ball carriers, and none of them logged more than four carries. Jensen Edwards led the way with 63 yards on four attempts and a touchdown, while Cowley’s early score and a 21-yard scoring burst from Latrell Sanders added to the pile.

By game’s end, the Warriors had outgained the Wildcats 461 yards to 169 — an eye-popping 12.8 yards per snap. Beyond Williams’ two interceptions, Tysley Gaisonsalano, King Golson and Johnathan Hayes each recorded four tackles to anchor a defense that kept Tuscaloosa County out of the end zone until the closing minutes.

Wildcats Fight to the Finish

Despite the lopsided score, Tuscaloosa County kept battling. Julius Gee shouldered the load in the running game, carrying 15 times for 52 yards, while Marcum finished 6 of 12 for 43 yards through the air. Anthony Valencia hauled in two receptions for 19 yards.

The Wildcats’ lone highlight came late, when Nolan Whigham broke off a 19-yard touchdown run — his only carry of the night — to put Tuscaloosa County on the board with 2:45 remaining and avoid the shutout.

Looking Ahead

Both programs now head into an open date before returning to region action. Thompson will hit the road to face rival Hoover in a matchup that carries significant weight in the 6A Region 3 standings. Tuscaloosa County, still searching for its first win, will host Vestavia Hills on Oct. 2 as it looks to build momentum for the back half of the season.
