No. 3 Saraland Crushes Pell City 68-10 Behind Jamison Roberts, Balanced Ground Attack
PELL CITY, AL – Third-ranked Saraland showed why it sits among Class 5A’s best, rolling to a 68-10 road win over Pell City in the first-ever meeting between the two programs. The Spartans piled up 624 yards of total offense and smothered the Panthers on defense, holding Pell City to minus-6 rushing yards for the game and just 15 total yards in the second half.
The victory pushed Saraland to 4-1 on the season. Pell City slipped to 2-4.
Roberts Sets the Tone Through the Air
Oklahoma commit Jamison Roberts was nearly perfect at quarterback for the Spartans. The senior completed 16 of 18 passes for 269 yards and connected with junior wide receiver Edward Turner for both of his touchdown throws.
Roberts found Turner for a 38-yard scoring strike in the first quarter to help stake Saraland to an early lead. He came back with a 27-yard touchdown pass to Turner in the third quarter as the Spartans pulled away.
Panthers Answer Early
Pell City did land a few punches before the game got out of hand. Dylon Garner drilled a 25-yard field goal late in the first quarter that trimmed Saraland’s lead to 13-3.
The Panthers reached the end zone in the second quarter, when Wyatt Hartley hit Brenon Saulter with a 23-yard touchdown pass with 8:02 left in the first half. Garner added the point-after to make it a two-score game before Saraland took full control.
Pugh and Harris Power the Ground Game
Saraland’s rushing attack proved just as punishing as its passing. Ayiden Pugh ran for three touchdowns, breaking free on scoring runs of 4, 23 and 17 yards.
Jakari Harris matched him with three scores of his own. He punched in touchdowns on back-to-back first-half possessions from 3 and 2 yards out, then added a 1-yard plunge later in the game.
Big Plays Pile On
The Spartans found the end zone from all over the field. Larry Pettway took a reverse 31 yards for a touchdown, adding another wrinkle to Saraland’s already loaded offense.
Sophomore Kaden Young capped the scoring with a 62-yard touchdown dash with 4:08 left to play, underscoring the depth Saraland can lean on this season.
Spartans Defense Delivers a Shutout in the Second Half
While the offense grabbed headlines, Saraland’s defense set the tone after halftime. The Spartans allowed Pell City just 15 total yards in the second half and finished the night holding the Panthers to minus-6 rushing yards. That kind of control turned a strong start into a lopsided final margin.
Looking Ahead
Saraland returns home next Friday night to host the Elberta Warriors, riding plenty of momentum on both sides of the ball.
Pell City faces a stiff test on the road, traveling to Jefferson County to take on the powerhouse Clay-Chalkville Cougars as the Panthers look to right the ship.
