Orange Beach Rolls Past Francis Marion 45-0 to Stay Perfect on Homecoming
ORANGE BEACH, AL – Orange Beach turned its homecoming into a statement. The Makos scored early, scored often and never let up, blanking Francis Marion 45-0 on Friday night to push their record to 6-0.
The win kept Orange Beach unbeaten and firmly in control of the Class 4A, Region 1 race. For Francis Marion, the loss ended a strong start to the season and left the visitors searching for answers as region play continues.
First Quarter: Makos Strike Fast and Often
Orange Beach set the tone before the offense even took the field. Devin Gause fielded the opening kickoff and raced the length for a touchdown, putting the Makos ahead in seconds.
The home defense joined the scoring party moments later. Orange Beach recovered a Francis Marion fumble, and two plays afterward Lee Steele broke free for a 17-yard touchdown run.
The Makos kept the pressure on. Davis Woodson finished a quick three-play, 38-yard drive with an 11-yard touchdown run. Cal Creel then added a 10-yard scoring run, capping a four-touchdown opening quarter that put the game out of reach early.
Second Quarter: Field Goal Extends the Lead
Orange Beach traded its aerial and ground bursts for points off the foot. Evan Crochet drilled a field goal to stretch the advantage to 31-0 at halftime. By the break, the Makos had shown balance across all three phases — special teams, offense and defense all contributed to the runaway margin.
Third Quarter: Creel and Rehr Pile On
The second half brought more of the same. Creel opened the third-quarter scoring with an 18-yard touchdown run, his second of the night. Zane Rehr followed with a 5-yard touchdown run, sealing the 45-0 final.
Orange Beach spread the wealth throughout the game, with five different players reaching the end zone. That depth has become a hallmark of a team that has now controlled opponents from the opening whistle all season.
A Balanced Look at Both Programs
Orange Beach improved to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in Class 4A, Region 1, keeping the Makos among the region’s front-runners. Their ability to score in bunches and force turnovers has powered the fast start.
Francis Marion dropped to 4-1 overall but is still finding its footing in Class 1A, Region 3, where the Rams sit at 0-3. The visitors entered the night with a winning record, a reminder that this loss came against a bigger, undefeated program rather than a region opponent.
Looking Ahead
Orange Beach hits the road next week for a region matchup at Williamson, a game that could tighten its grip on the Class 4A, Region 1 standings.
Francis Marion returns home to host region foe Breakthrough Charter, a chance for the Rams to chase their first region win and steady the ship as the season rolls on.
