Rebels blow past Spartans in over the mountain clash

Mountain Brook, AL : The Vestavia Hills Rebels solidified their spot in the PrepsNet top 10 with a solid win at Spartan Stadium.

The Rebels opened the scoring late in the first quarter with a strike through the air from QB Brett Jones to Nolan Turner.  Walker Minor increased the Vestavia lead to 14 with a run from inside the five early in the second period.

Following a high snap safety and additional two for VHHS, Chris Yeager’s Spartans got on the board with a ten yard TD pass from Connor Adair to Sims Herron with seconds to go in the opening half.

The second half was all red and blue as Brett Jones connected with Remington Patterson for a 43 yard TD.  Vestavia closed out the night with fumble returns for touchdowns by Daniel Sims and Reid Adams, each in excess of 40 yards.

The Spartans 1-3 record paints the picture of a team struggling in difficult 7A Region 3.   However, this is a squad that has posted losses to defending state champion Hoover and a much improved Thompson Warriors squad by only a touchdown apiece in consecutive weeks.  The sledding doesn’t get any easier next week for the Spartans as they travel to Madison to face the top ten ranked James Clemens Jets.

The Rebels look to have reloaded from a disappointing 3-7 campaign in 2014.  Buddy Anderson’s crew steps out of the states toughest region to host Oxford next week before entering a three week grind that includes Hoover, Spain Park and Thompson.
