Baker’s Myla Reed and Cold Springs’ Ethan Edgeworth Highlight This Week’s AHSAA Outdoor Track Spotlight

MONTGOMERY – Baker High School’s Myla Reed recorded the state’s fastest outdoor time in two sprint events last week, and Cold Springs High School senior Ethan Edgeworth set an all- classification record, landing the duo in this week’s AHSAA Outdoor Track Spotlight.

Edgeworth ran 3,200 meters in 8:38.49, a personal record and an all-time AHSAA outdoor track and field record, to finish sixth overall at last weekend’s Arcadia Invitational in California. The previous all-classification record of 9:01.74 was set by Scottsboro’s Evan Hill in 2022. Edgeworth finished about a second and a half behind American Fork (Utah)’s Daniel Simmons, who clocked 8:34.96. The nation’s six fastest high school 3,200-meter times were delivered in the meet  at the Arcadia Invitational. Edgeworth also set the AHSAA cross country record at the 2023 Cross Country Championships last fall.

Reed ran a state-best 11.81 seconds in the 100-meter dash and had a state-best 24.72 time in the 200 meters at the at the Mobile Challenge of Champions meet. She won both races.

Several other athletes delivered state-best marks for 2024 in a variety of events at recent meets:

  • Janie Ford, St. Paul’s Episcopal: Clocked 55.40 seconds to win the 400-meter dash at the Mobile Challenge of Champions, the best time this season by an Alabama female sprinter. She also clocked a personal record of 24.76 seconds to win the 200-meter dash and added a triple jump of 39 feet, 3 inches, the longest triple jump by a female competitor so far during the 2024 AHSAA outdoor season – both at the Saraland Invitational. At the Challenge of Champions meet, she also won the 100-meter hurdles in 14.52 seconds and won the triple jump with a leap of 38 feet, 7¼ inches. Ford won two other events at the Saraland Invitational, clocking 14.39 seconds to win the 100-meter hurdles, and soaring 18 feet, 1½ inches to win the long jump. She currently has the state’s top performance in four individual events this season, according to www.alabamarunners.com – the 400 meters (55.40 seconds); 100-meter hurdles (14.38 seconds); 300-meter hurdles (41.78 seconds); and triple jump (39 feet, 3 inches).
  • Jordan Urrutia, Bob Jones: Clocked a state-best 21.34 time in the 200-meter dash event at the Bob Jones Invitational in Madison. He also won the 400 meters in 49.14 and the 200 meters at the Rocket City Showcase with a time of 21.69 seconds.
  • Patrick Adcock, Cullman: Won the discus with a state-best throw of 163 feet, 2 inches at the Cullman County vs. Marshall County meet held at Guntersville High School. He also competed at the Rocket City Showcase at Huntsville’s Milton Frank Stadium, winning the discus with a throw of 158 feet, 8 inches and winning the shot put with a throw of 52 feet, 6 inches.
  • Jaden King, Calera: Clocked a personal record of 48.51 seconds in the 400 meters at the Rocket City Showcase, despite finishing runner-up to Crosstown (TN) runner Austin McCall.
  • Katie Wilkerson, Beauregard: Delivered state-best throw of 132 feet in the discus at the Glenn Copeland Invite in Beauregard. She also won the shot put with a throw of 38 feet, ¼ inch and finished second in the javelin with a throw of 125 feet, 9 inches. She won the discus at the JD Evilsizer Panther Invitational in Smiths Station with a throw of 129 feet, 5 inches and finished runner-up in the javelin with a throw of 122 feet, 10 inches. At the Mobile Challenge of Champions, she won the javelin with a throw of 138 feet, 4 inches.
  • Isabella Johnson, Montgomery Academy: Won the shot put with a state-best throw of 40 feet, 5¼ inches and won the discus with a throw of 124 feet, 3 inches at the Montgomery Academy Invitational. She also won the shot put at the Monday Madness in Montgomery with a throw of 39 feet, 10 inches. Competing at the Mobile Challenge of Champions, she won the shot put at 40 feet, 3¾ inches and finished second in the discus at with a throw of 124 feet, 11 inches.
  • William Numnum, Northridge: Cleared 15 feet, 1 inch in the pole vault for a state best this season at the Mobile Challenge of Champions.
  • Annie Kerr, Mountain Brook: Cleared a state-best 13 feet in the girls’ pole vault at the Mobile Challenge of Champions.

GIRLS

CAROLINE SANDERS, SCOTTSBORO: Won the triple jump with a leap of 38 feet, 3 inches and won the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 1 inch at the Rocket City Showcase in Huntsville and tied for the best high jump at 5 feet, 4 inches, alongside Bob Jones’ Jasmyne Rochelle and Northridge’s Ceaira Wine. At the Scottsboro Invitational, she won the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 3 inches, won the triple jump soaring 37 feet, 5½ inches and won the high jump at 5 feet, 4 inches.

DESTINY ROPER, FOLEY: Finished second in the 100 meters at the Mobile Challenge of Champions with a time of 12.06 seconds.

AVERY CAHOON, HEWITT-TRUSSVILLE: Won the 1,600 meters at the Spain Park Classic with a time of 4:56.97.

TY CASON, CHELSEA: Ran second in the 1,600 meters at the Spain Park Classic with a time of 4:58.13. She also finished second in the 800 meters in 2:14.97.

DELANEY VICKERS, SPAIN PARK: Won the 800 meters at the Spain Park Classic with a time of 2:13.17 and finished third in the 1,600 meters with a time of 5:00.85.

MADISYN HAWKINS, HEWITT-TRUSSVILLE: Won the discus at the Spain Park Classic with a throw of 129 feet, 6 inches.

KE’ASIA WASHINGTON, CENTER POINT: Won the shot put at the Spain Park Classic with a throw of 39 feet, 1½ inches.

CARLEE CRAFT, BEAUREGARD: Won the javelin at the JD Evilsizer Panther Invitational in Smiths Station with a throw of 140 feet, 9 inches. She also won the javelin at the Glenn Copeland Invite with a throw of 137 feet, 4 inches. She was third in the javelin at the Mobile Challenge of Champions with a throw of 129 feet, 3 inches.

ELLIE PARTRICK, BROOKS: Won the discus with a throw of 121 feet, 6 inches and won the javelin with a throw of 141 feet at the Scottsboro Invitational.

A’CYNTHIA BROWN, LEE-HUNTSVILLE: Captured the shot-put event with a throw of 39 feet, 10 inches at the Bob Jones Invitational.

MALEA WIGGINS, ATHENS: Finished second in the shot put with a throw of 38 feet, 4¾ inches at the Bob Jones Invitational.

NYLA FRANKLIN, GADSDEN CITY: Won the high jump by clearing 5 feet, 4 inches at the Gadsden City Meet No. 5.

MALLORY DIAL, HAYDEN: Cleared 5 feet, 4 inches in the high jump at the Lincoln Meet No. 3.

ALLYSON HILL, FAIRVIEW: Won the triple jump with a leap of 36 feet at the Wildcat Invitational in Fort Payne.

ZARIA PARKER, JAMES CLEMENS: Won the 100-meter dash at the Rocket City Showcase at Huntsville’s Milton Frank Stadium with a time of 12.09 seconds and won the 200 meters with a time of 24.90 seconds.

ASHANTI SLAUGHTER, MAE JEMISON: Clocked 45.47 seconds to win the 300-meter hurdles at the Rocket City Showcase after running 45.78 in the preliminaries.

McKENSIE REGISTER, AUBURN: Clocked 45.55 seconds to win the 300-meter hurdles at the Friday Night Lights meet in Auburn. She finished second in the 300-meter hurdles at the Mobile Challenge of Champions with a time of 44.65 seconds.

HARLEY McNEAL, NORTHRIDGE: Finished runner-up in the 100 meters at the Rocket City Showcase with a time of 12.25 seconds.

ALIVIA URRUTIA, BOB JONES: Won the 400 meters at the Rocket City Showcase with a time of 57.17 seconds.

MEG WIGINTON, HAMILTON: Won the 300-meter hurdles at the Mike Spann Invitational with a time of 46.33 seconds.

SUMMER ROBERTS, JASPER: Won the javelin with a throw of 122 feet, 1 inch at the Mike Spann Invitational.

KATIE MAE COAN, LAWRENCE COUNTY: Won the 1,600 meters at the Guntersville Varsity Meet No. 1 with a time of 5:09.35 and won the 3,200 meters in 10:59.47. She also won the 1,600 meters in 5:12.85 and won the 3,200 meters in 11:07.48 at the RVL Invitational in Russellville.

ROSE BETTS, BREWER: Finished runner-up in the 1,600 meters at the Guntersville Varsity Meet No. 1 in 5:11.78 and won the 3,200 meters in 11:11.21.

KARLEIGH MILLS, NORTHSIDE METHODIST: Won the javelin at the Montgomery Academy Invitational with a throw of 134 feet, 1 inch and won the javelin at the CCS No. 4 meet in Andalusia with a throw of 133 feet, 4 inches.

KYLA SISULAK, HUNTSVILLE: Won the javelin at the Rocket City Showcase with a throw of 123 feet, 4 inches.

COOPER GARRETT, FORT PAYNE: Won the javelin with a throw of 122 feet, 3 inches at the Wildcat Invitational in Fort Payne.

A’CYNTHIA BROWN, LEE-HUNTSVILLE: Won the shot put at the Rocket City Showcase with a throw of 37 feet, 9 inches.

SARAH COBB, HUNTSVILLE: Won the 1-mile run at the Rocket City Showcase with a time of 5:12.49.

EVA ARMSTEAD, HATTON: Won the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 6 inches at the Deshler Varsity Meet No. 2 in Tuscumbia.

BOYS

JAKE WEBB, HAMILTON: Cleared 14 feet, 6 inches to win the pole vault at the Marion County Championships. He cleared 14 feet to win at the Mike Spann Invitational in Winfield.

BRADEN WALER, SARDIS: Won the javelin at the Gadsden City Meet No. 5 with a throw of 182 feet, 8 inches.

KODIE BOGLE, GASTON: Won the javelin with a throw of 179 feet, 10 inches at the Wildcat Invitational in Fort Payne. He had a throw of 177 feet, 8 inches at the Mobile Challenge of Champions.

BRETT COLEMAN, HALEYVILLE: Won the javelin at the Mike Spann Invitational in Winfield with a throw of 179 feet, 6 inches.

TREY RIDENOUR, ELBERTA: Finished runner-up in the discus at the Mobile Challenge of Champions with a throw of 158 feet, 2 inches and won the discus at the Field of Dreams Day Meet in Gulf Shores with a throw of 150 feet, 3 inches.

MALCOLM SIMMONS, BENJAMIN RUSSELL: Won the long jump with a leap of 23 feet, 8½ inches at the Friday Night Lights meet and also tied for the best high jump by clearing 6 feet, 6 inches.

T.J. AUTREY, AUBURN: Cleared 6 feet, 8 inches in the high jump at the Friday Night Lights meet in Auburn. He cleared 6 feet, 6 inches the Mobile Challenge of Champions.

TYE MADISON, MARION COUNTY: Cleared 6 feet, 6 inches to win the high jump at the Marion County Championships in Winfield.

DELDRICK SHELTON, FRANCIS MARION: Won the high jump at the King of the West meet in Tuscaloosa by clearing 6 feet, 6 inches.

JAMAURI McCLURE, GOSHEN: Clocked 10.65 seconds to win the 100-meter dash at the Troy Invitational Track Meet No. 3.

ERYK BROWN, CHELSEA: Clocked 10.65 seconds to win the 100 meters at the Spain Park Classic and won the 200 meters in 21.50 seconds.

ARTHUR WOODS, REELTOWN: Clocked 10.71 seconds to win the 100-meter dash at the Glenn Copeland Invite for the Class 2A Rebels, the fastest time of the year by any sprinter below Class 6A.

ALIJAH VAUGHN, SPARKMAN: Clocked 10.72 seconds in the 100 meters the Mobile Challenge of Champions.

BRADLEY FRANKLIN, THOMPSON: Clocked 14.09 seconds to win the 110-meter hurdles at the Spain Park Classic and won the 300-meter hurdles in 37.84 seconds.

ZATHIAN WEBSTER, BOB JONES: Finished runner-up in the 200 meters at the Bob Jones Invitational with a time of 21.62 seconds.

WINSTON McGHEE, SPANISH FORT: Clocked 1:56.75 in the 800 meters at the Mobile Challenge of Champions.

CHARLES PERRY, UMS-WRIGHT: Won two events at the Battle of the Bay No. 2 hosted by Bayside Academy in Daphne, clocking 1:56.13 in the 800 meters and 4:17.32 in the 1,600 meters.

PARKER CAMPBELL, CHELSEA: Clocked 4:20.03 to win the 1,600 meters at the Spain Park Classic, beating Oak Mountain’s Cooper Jeffcoat (4:20.41) in a photo finish.

JAYDEN ALLRED, COLD SPRINGS: Won the 5,000-meter run at the Rocket City Showcase with a time of 15:31.31.

JOHN SHOEMAKER, OAK MOUNTAIN: Finished runner-up in the 5,000-meter run at the Rocket City Showcase with a time of 15:48.93.

DYLAN DRYER, JAMES CLEMENS: Clocked 1:54.02 to win the 800 meters in a photo finish at the Rocket City Showcase.

LUKE ALVERSON, JAMES CLEMENS: Won the 1,600 meters at the Bob Jones Invitational with a. time of 4:17.25. Finished runner-up in the 800 meters at the Rocket City Showcase with a time of 1:54.21. He also finished second in the 1-mile run with a time of 4:11.70.

ERIC MOORE, HUNTSVILLE: Ran third in the 800 meters at the Rocket City Showcase with a time of 1:54.93. He also ran third in the 1-mile run with a time of 4:16.85.

STEPHEN JONES, SCOTTSBORO: Won the 1,600 meters at the Scottsboro Invitational with a. time of 4:17.63, beating runner-up and teammate Hamilton Richardson (4:24.28) to the finish line.

MATTHEW BLAKE, TRINITY PRESBYTERIAN: Won the 800 meters at the Monday Madness in Montgomery with a time of 1:57.66.

JOHN LUKE STOVALL, JAMES CLEMENS: Finished fourth in the 800 meters at the Rocket City Showcase with a time of 1:57.85.

BRAYDEN WATSON, HUNTSVILLE: Clocked 39.12 seconds to finish runner-up in the 300-meter hurdles at the Rocket City Showcase.

ISAAC POLLARD, JAMES CLEMENS: Finished third in the 300-meter hurdles at the Rocket City Showcase with a time of 39.49 seconds after clocking 39.20 seconds in the preliminaries.

BRYCE McCLEARY, HAZEL GREEN: Clocked 9:09.19 to win the 3,200 meters at the Rocket City Showcase.

COLE ROBINSON, JAMES CLEMENS: Finished runner-up in the 3,200 meters at the Rocket City Showcase with a time of 9:27.81. He ran fourth in the 1-mile run with a time of 4:18.64.

CURTIS HILL, THOMPSON: Clocked 49.47 seconds to win the 400 meters at the Spain Park Classic.

KILAN LITTLE, NORTHRIDGE: Soared 46 feet, 8 ¾ inches in the triple jump at the Mobile Challenge of Champions. He also finished runner-up in the triple jump at the Rocket City Showcase with a leap of 45 feet, 1½ inches.

JULIUS WILLIAMS, WETUMPKA: Won the triple jump at the Troy Invitational Track Meet No. 3 with a leap of 45 feet, 5 inches.
