Arab Head Football Coach Lee Ozmint Placed on Administrative Leave

Arab, AL – Arab High School head football coach, Lee Ozmint, has beed placed on administrative leave following allegations related to inappropriate conduct involving a minor from the school. According to Arab Police Chief Shane Washburn, Ozmint has been charged following accusations of sending improper communications to a male student. Subsequently, he turned himself in to Arab Police but has been released on bond pending further investigations.  Further details about the case have yet to appear in online state court records.

Since taking the reins of the Knights program in 2019, Ozmint has lead Arab to a combined 38-18 record, including a program best four consecutive playoff appearances.

In light of the allegations, Arab City Schools issued a statement acknowledging the receipt of reports concerning “unprofessional and inappropriate communications” between an Arab High School educator and a student. Upon learning of these allegations, the school administration contacted law enforcement authorities and initiated an internal investigation. The educator involved has been placed on administrative leave and is currently prohibited from being present on any school campus associated with Arab City Schools.

The school district has emphasized its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of its students. According to the release school officials, including Superintendent Dr. Johnny Berry, are investigating the issue to determine the appropriate next steps, including potential disciplinary actions. However, in respect of all parties’ rights, the school district has refrained from disclosing further information, including the identities of those involved.

Throughout his coaching career, Ozmint has amassed an overall record of 115-55 across 15 seasons, highlighted by 11 postseason appearances and a pair of region titles. During his tenure at Arab he has led the Knights to the best run in program history.  Prior to taking over the Knights program, Ozmint served as linebackers coach at Oxford High School. His first head coaching stop was a 10 year stint at Glencoe.  From 2006-2015 he lead the 3A Yellow Jackets to a 77-36 mark and seven straight playoff appearances.

Before stepping on the prep sidelines, the Anderson, South Carolina native won an SEC championship as a player for the Alabama Crimson Tide and later earned his law degree from the University of Alabama.  Following his career as an attorney he began his coaching career with a five year stint as an assistant at Gadsden High School.
