Dustan Goode Steps Down After A Decade At Mortimer Jordan

Kimberly, AL – Mortimer Jordan head football coach Dustan Goode announced his decision to step down after 10 seasons at the helm of the Blue Devils football program Wednesday afternoon. The 2015 Alabama Sports Writers Association Class 5A Coach of the Year departs as the winningest coach in program history.

Goode’s tenure at the North Jefferson County program was marked by leading the Devils to an overall 80-41 record including a 14-8 run in the postseason, a 44-21 mark in region play four consecutive Class 5A region crowns from 2016 to 2019 and eight trips to the AHSAA playoffs.  

His decade in Kimberly was highlighted by the program’s first trip to the AHSAA Super 7 Championships in 2015 where the Blue Devils came up short to south Alabama power St. Paul’s Episcopal in the Class 5A state title game at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

The University of West Alabama alum concluded his second stint at the helm of the Mortimer Jordan program.  He lead the Devils from 2013 to 2020 before handing the to reins to current Clay-Chalkville head coach Stuart Floyd for one season before stepping back into the head coaching position following the 2021 campaign.  

Jordan closed out 2023 at 8-3, falling to the Fort Payne Wildcats in the first round of the Class 6A postseason.  

Goode’s first head coaching stop was a one year stint at Dora where he lead the Bulldogs to their first winning season in four years, culminating in a 9-3 record and a trip to the second round of the Class 4A postseason.  Earlier in his career he spent time as an assistant at Cordova, Buckhorn, Greenville, Newnan (GA) and McAdory.

His career record currently stands at 89-44, featuring nine playoff appearances and four region titles across 12 seasons as a head coach.

The Blue Devils, who will join rival Gardendale, Homewood, Jackon-Olin, Minor, Parker and Woodlawn in a redrawn Class 6A, Region 5, will kick off their 2024 campaign August 23rd against the Leeds Green Wave at Jimmie Trotter Stadium.
