Jasper, AL – The Jasper Vikings welcomed the Hueytown Golden Gophers to Ki-Ro/Gambrell Field Friday May 21st to close out spring drills for both 6A football squads.

Jasper capped head coach Philip Bailey’s first season at the helm of the Walker County program with a 3-7 record and a 1-5 mark in Region 6 play.  The Vikes will kickoff their second season in powerful 6A Region 6 in the fall battling defending state champion Pinson Valley, powerhouse Clay-Chalkville and Birmingham area foes Gardendale, Mortimer Jordan, Jackson-Olin and Minor.

Greg Patterson’s Golden Gophers are coming off a 5-6 region championship campaign in 2020 which featured a pair of COVID related forfeit victories and a two loses as a result of the pandemic.  Hueytown will begin their second season in Class 6A Region 4 in the fall alongside rivals Bessemer City and McAdory and Tuscaloosa County opponents Northridge, Paul Bryant, Brookwood and traditional 6A power Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa.
