Preview the 27th Annual AHSAA North-South All-Star Softball Competition

Montgomery, AL – The North-South All-Star squads for the highly anticipated 27th annual AHSAA North-South All-Star softball competition have been revealed. Brandon Dean, Director of the Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association (AHSADCA), released the two 18-member teams comprising rising seniors from the class of 2024 on Monday.

Under the auspices of the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA), the AHSADCA will not only be hosting the All-Star softball competition but will also be organizing all-star games for basketball, baseball, volleyball, boys’ and girls’ soccer, cross country, tennis, and golf throughout the exhilarating All-Star Week from July 17 to 22. It is worth mentioning that the all-star teams for fall sports and winter sports have already been announced, building up the excitement for this annual event.

As we reminisce about the thrilling 64th annual North-South All-Star Football Game, which took place last December in Mobile, where the South emerged victorious with a remarkable 42-7 win, the anticipation for the upcoming softball competition continues to grow.

The coaches for the 2023 All-Star softball squads have been revealed, further igniting the fervor surrounding the event. On the North team, we have Christy Ferguson from Danville, Becky Seymour from Moody, and Kent Chambers from Bob Jones, who will serve as the administrative coach. Meanwhile, the South team will be guided by Christ Steiner from Brewbaker Tech, Cindy Hawthorne from Brantley, and Susan Barnes, who will be taking on the role of administrative coach from Elba.

Excitement builds as the South Softball All-Star coaching staff boasts two coaches who led their respective teams to state titles in 2023. Steiner masterfully guided Brewbaker Tech to claim the 5A state championship, while Hawthorne’s exceptional leadership directed Brantley to secure the Class state title.

The South team is set to feature four outstanding players who competed in the highly prestigious 2023 AHSAA State Softball Championships at Oxford’s Choccolocco Park. Among them are the remarkable Class 6A MVP, Ma Holt, from Wetumpka, along with her talented teammate Ella Watson. Additionally, we have Jesslyn Gordon from Fairhope, who played a significant role in leading her team to become the Class 7A state runner-up, Mary Suzan Aman from Houston Academy, who made a notable impact during the Class 4A runner-up campaign, and Reese Cauley from Opp, who showcased her skills as her team fought hard for the Class 3A runner-up position.

Meanwhile, the North All-Stars proudly feature two players who recently competed in a captivating 2023 State softball championship game. Sara Phillips from Hewitt-Trussville contributed significantly to her team’s triumphant claim of the Class 7A state title, while Morgan Stiles from Athens High School played a vital role in their second-place finish in the Class 6A state tournament this year and their state crown victory in 2022.

Mark your calendars for Wednesday, July 19, as the North-South All-Star softball competition is set to take place at the prestigious Lagoon Park. To ensure that fans do not miss out on any of the thrilling action, the doubleheader will be live-streamed by both the NFHS Network and AHSAA TV Network.

In a stunning turn of events from last year, where the North swept the games 6-3 and 10-5, they now maintain a firm lead in the series with a record of 29-23-3. As the upcoming 27th annual AHSAA North-South All-Star softball competition approaches, fans eagerly await to witness the exhilarating clash between these exceptional athletes from the North and South.
