Miles Holcomb named Southside-Gadsden head football coach

Southside, AL – The Southside-Gadsden Panthers have landed their 28th head football coach. The 6A program introduced former Crossville head coach and Hoover Bucs assistant Miles Holcomb as the Panthers next leader on the gridiron Tuesday afternoon.  

Holcomb replaces former Southside head coach Gary Nelson who resigned following his lone season in Etowah County.  Nelson lead the Panthers to a 7-4 record, including a 3-3 mark in region play, a trip to the postseason and Southside’s first victory over rival Etowah in four years before departing for Marrietta, GA’s Walker School. 

Holcomb, a Crossville native and Shorter University alum began his coaching career with a three year stint as wide receivers coach at his alma mater, Crossville High before serving as the offensive coordinator at North Jackson and Haleyville.  Holcomb returned to Crossville as the Lions head coach in 2016 where he lead the 5A program to a combined 8-13 record, including the program’s first postseason appearance in 12 seasons.  

After a pair of seasons at Crossville, Holcomb joined Josh Niblett’s Hoover staff where he tutored quarterbacks and receivers for two seasons before spending 2020 as offensive coordinator at Metro Atlanta’s Alpharetta High. 

Southside with begin their second season in Class 6A region 7 alongside traditional power Oxford, Fort Payne, Arab, Pell City, Scottsboro and Springville.
