AHSAA 1A Baseball Championship | Donoho takes series lead over Bayshore Christian

Montgomery, AL – Donoho School junior hurler Slade Haney paced the Falcons on the mound and at the plate in game one of the AHSAA 2021 Class 1A State Baseball Championship Series which got underway with Bayshore Christian Tuesday night at Paterson Field.

Donoho (24-10) beat the Eagles 6-3 with Haney pitching six innings, scattering five hits and striking out six to give the Falcons the game one win in the best of three championship series. He also pounded a triple and double and drove in two runs at the plate.  Junior first baseman Judson Billings, also had two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Sophomore catcher Lucas Elliot had two hits and two RBIs and leadoff hitter senior shortstop Blake Willingham had a hit and scored two runs for Coach Steve Gendron’s Falcons.

Bayshore Christian (26-9) pounded eight hits with sophomore shortstop Mikael Bryant collecting a double,  two singles and an RBI. Senior Luke Werneth also added three hits. Losing pitcher Streed Crooms pitched five innings, allowed eight hits, all six runs and struck out five.

The two teams play game two of the best two-of-three series Wednesday at Riverwalk Stadium at 4 p.m.  The third game, if needed, will follow 30 minutes after conclusion of game two.  The AHSAA TV Network, produced by WOTM TV, is televising the remaining games of the series live over the WOTM network of cable stations and is also being live-streamed over the NFHS Network.

Class 7A and Class 4A begin their series with single games at Paterson Field Wednesday. Hoover takes on Auburn at 4 p.m., in the 7A opener while Mobile Christian and Oneonta open the 4A series at 7 p.m. The two series conclude at Riverwalk Stadium Thursday and the Class 3A championship series between Phil Campbell and Bayside Academy play at 6 p.m. in game one of that series at Paterson Field Thursday night. The 3A series concludes Friday at Riverwalk beginning with game two at 10 a.m.
