James Clemens, LAMP, Davidson and Bob Jones Claim AHSAA E-Sports State Titles

Montgomery, AL – In a thrilling display of competitive gaming, James Clemens High School clinched two state titles at the fifth AHSAA State E-Sports Championships held at Huntingdon College’s Leo J. Drum Theatre. The event saw other high schools such as LAMP, Davidson, and Bob Jones clinching one state E-Sports title each. The tournament was successfully administered by Huntingdon College E-Sports Coach James Ellis, supported by his collegiate team.

Under the tutelage of Coach Pamela Paquette, James Clemens emerged victorious in the Mario Kart and the Splatoon 3 competitions. These wins mark their second and third state E-Sports titles, adding to their previous success in League of Legends in 2021. Notably, the all-girl team from James Clemens, comprising Sophia Rogers, Maddie Templeton, Abigail Holme, Julianna Ballard, and Emery Chambers, made history by becoming the first female team to win a state championship since the AHSAA recognized E-Sports as a competition in 2019.

Montgomery’s LAMP High School, steered by Coach Jarell Chisolm, scored a clean sweep against Ashford, securing the Super Smash state title. Bob Jones High School from Madison triumphed in the Rocket League championship over Lee-Huntsville, under the guidance of Coach Aubree White.

The much-awaited Madden football competition saw Stephen Caster of Davidson break Bob Jones’ three-championship winning streak, defeating Keith Nowicki 2-0. Davidson’s back-to-back victory in the Madden competition, under Coach Aimee Tucker’s direction, reinforces their dominance in the game. It’s noteworthy that both Davidson and Bob Jones have consistently reached the finals in all four E-Sports state finals since Madden was introduced to the competition in the fall of 2021.
