Scottsboro Claims Come-from-behind Victory over Arab

Scottsboro, AL – The Arab Arabian Knights traveled to Scottsboro’s Pat Trammell Stadium Friday night for a battle of unbeattens for a pivotal Class 5A, Region 7 matchup.  The visitors got off to a good start, taking a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. But the Wildcats bounced back, scoring 28 unanswered points to claim a 28-14 victory and hand Arab their first loss of the season.

In the beginning, Scottsboro moved deep into Arabian Knight territory but ended up putting the ball on the turf. Arab’s Wyatt Lamar scooped it up and ran it back 91 yards into the endzone, giving the Knights an early 7-0 lead. Later in the first quarter, Arab put together a strong dive capped by a Logan Silva score extending their lead to 14-0.

The Wildcats responded, working their way back into the Knight redzone and hitting paydirt on fourth and goal to to narrow the lead to 14-7 with just under 10 minutes left in the first half. Arab returned the favor with a promising drive of their own, reaching the 1-yard line, but a fumble cut their chances short, handing the ball back to the Wildcats with five minutes remaining in the half. Scottsboro then went on to cover 99 yards and tied the game at 14 with 0:19 ticks remaining in the second quarter.

After the break, the Knights offense stalled, failing to convert on a fourth-down play, giving the Cats a chance to take their first lead of the night. Scottsboro answered quickly with a 34-yard touchdown strike, taking a 21-14 advantage midway thought the third period. Arab moved the ball well but came up short on another fourth-down play with just over a minute left in the third.

The Wildcats capitalized on the stop, scoring another touchdown to stretch their lead to 28-14 with seven minutes remaining. Arab couldn’t answer back, and the Wildcats handed them their first loss of the season.

Historically, this was the 65th meeting between the two Class 5A rivals. The Wildcats currently hold a 42-21-2 edge over the Knights in the series that dates back to 1926.  

The Knights will look to bounce back next week as they step out of region play and travel back to Northeast Alabama to take on the 6A Fort Payne Wildcats (2-2).  Scottsboro will make the trip to Priceville to face the 3-2 Bulldogs.
