Spain Park Stuns 5th Ranked Hewitt-Trussville 50-29

Trussville, AL – The Spain Park Jaguars pulled off a stunning victory over the 5th ranked Hewitt-Trussville Huskies with a final score of 50-29 on Friday night in east Jefferson County. The remarkable win marked the Jaguars’ third consecutive victory and boosted their record to 5-3, with a 3-3 mark in Class 7A, Region 3 play. On the flip side, the Huskies slip to 6-3 overall, with a 4-2 record in the region.

The game got off to an explosive start as Hewitt-Trussville signal caller Peyton Floyd broke free for a spectacular 36-yard run, putting the Huskies ahead 7-0. However, the Jaguars wasted no time in responding. A brilliantly executed double-reverse pass from Brock Bradley to Logan Brownlee resulted in a 25-yard touchdown that knotted the score at 7-7. Running back Dakarai Shanks extended the Jaguars’ lead to 14-7 with a powerful 10-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter.

As the game unfolded, Bradley shined under center, connecting with wide receiver Reggie Jackson for a 46-yard touchdown pass, pushing the Jaguars ahead 21-7 in the second quarter. Floyd was not to be outdone, paying off a Husky drive with a 1-yard run to bring Hewitt within striking distance at 21-13. The first half concluded with an Alex Lloyd 21-yard field goal, giving Spain Park a 24-13 advantage at the break.

After a strong defensive stand, The Huskies capitalized as Jaqson Melton found the endzone from just inside the Spain Park 10 yard line.  A successful two-point-conversion run, courtesy of Payton Floyd, reduced the Husky deficit to 24-21.

The Jaguars answered back, as Bradley capped the drive with a short touchdown toss to Mitchell Frazer.  A failed point after attempt left the visitors up 30-21.

Midway thought the fourth quarter, Bradley padded the Jaguar lead with a one yard run to go up 36-21. The resilient Huskies didn’t give up, responding swiftly with a 43-yard pass from Floyd to Donovan Price, followed by a two-point conversion toss from Floyd to James Kelly. The score now stood at 36-29.

The final minutes of the game were an exclamation point for the Jags. Bradley displayed his arm strength, firing a remarkable 55-yard touchdown pass to Jonathan Bibbs, extending their lead to 43-29 with only 2:17 left on the clock. The icing on the cake came when Kelby Roberson intercepted a Floyd pass and returned it an astonishing 90 yards for the final score, sealing the win for the Jaguars.

Bradley’s performance throughout the game was nothing short of exceptional, completing 26-of-33 passes for 408 yards and four touchdowns. Dakarai Shanks led the Jaguar rushing attack with 94 yards and a touchdown on 27 attempts. Floyd put up a valiant effort for the Huskies, going 17-of-23 for 216 yards with one touchdown and an interception, in addition to rushing for 145 yards and two scores.

Looking ahead, Spain Park will carry their momentum into a region matchup with the struggling Oak Mountain Eagles (1-8, 0-6) at Herdmont Park next Friday night. Meanwhile, the Hewitt-Trussville Huskies will conclude their regular season with a road trip to Chelsea (2-7, 1-5).
