Southside’s Miles Holcomb To Be Named Tuscaloosa County Head Football Coach

Northport, AL – PrepsNet has confirmed that Miles Holcomb, who tendered his resignation as Southside-Gadsden’s head football coach on Friday morning, will be named the Tuscaloosa County Wildcat’s 25th leader on the gridiron.   Holcomb is expected to be approved by the Tuscaloosa County School Board on Tuesday.

Holcomb will take over for former Wildcats head coach Adam Winegarden, who resigned in mid-January to accept the Director of Leadership and High School Relations at Troy University. During his tenure, Winegarden led the Wildcats to a record of 12-18 over three seasons, including a 5-5 mark in 2023.

Over the past three seasons, Holcomb has been at the forefront of the Southside program, leading the Panthers to an 18-15 record including three postseason appearances and a Class 5A, region 6 title in 2023 – the first for the program since 2014. His successful run earned him the title of Etowah county coach of the year in 2023 and an appearance in the CM Gridiron interactive Coach of the Year poll.

Before taking over at Southside in 2021, Holcomb had stints as quarterbacks and wide receivers coach at Hoover and later as offensive coordinator at Metro Atlanta’s Alpharetta High School in 2020.

Holcomb, a Shorter University alum, spent time as an assistant at Crossville, North Jackson, and Haleyville before accepting his first head coaching role at Crossville in 2016. There, he led the Lions to an 8-13 record and a playoff berth in two seasons.

Holcomb’s career head coaching record currently stands at 26-28, with four postseason appearances and a balanced 16-16 score in region play over six seasons.

In 2024, Tuscaloosa County will join Hewitt-Trussville, Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa, Hoover, Oak Mountain, Prattville, Thompson, and Vestavia Hills in the revamped Class 7A, Region 3.

Holcomb will lead Tuscaloosa County on the field for the first time August 23rd when the Wildcats welcome the Central-Tuscaloosa Falcons to Northport.
