Postgame Recap | Briarwood takes out Moody 35-14
Moody, AL – The top ranked Briarwood Lions improved to 2-0, 1-0 in region play, Friday night with a win over the Moody Blue Devils at Bill Simmons Stadium.
While the Lions rushing attack attack, lead by junior J.R. Tran-Reno’s 91 yards and one touchdown, dominated the contest the stingy Briarwood defense allowed the Blue Devils only 121 yards of total offense.
In addition to Tran-Reno’s performance, Briarwood sophomore Luke Prewett chipped in 58 rushing yards and a touchdown and senior quarterback Micheal Hiers added three scores on the ground.
The Lions defense was lead by a third quarter interception by senior cornerback Jonathan Hill and sacks by Joseph Mungenast and Gabriel Russell.
Moody’s two scores came courtesy of runs from inside the five by Jordan Ransom-Mason and Amonte Benefield.
Briarwood returns to action Friday night a home against 5A region 5 foe Wenonah (2-0) (1-0). The Lions defeated the Dragons in the team’s regular season meeting in 2016 but Wenonah returned the favor, taking down Briarwood 14-8 in last year’s AHSAA state semi-finals.
Moody goes on the road to continue region 5 play, traveling to Shelby County (1-0) (0-1). Last season the Blue Devils defeated the Wildcats marking Moody’s lone victory in the teams seven meetings.
