Arab Rolls Past Brewer 28-13

ARAB, AL — The reigning Class 5A, Region 7 champion Arab Arabian Knights returned to their home turf on Friday night after a victorious week zero win over Marshall County rival Albertville. In week one, they welcomed the Brewer Patriots to the SportsPlex, and after a closely contested first half, managed to seize control, securing a hard fought 28-13 win.

In their opening possessions, both teams exchanged punts. However, Brewer capped their second drive with a Christopher Watson four yard touchdown run, giving the visitors an early 7-0 lead over the Knights with just a few seconds remaining in the first quarter. Arab swiftly responded in the second period as Logan Alldredge scored a 4-yard touchdown run, Aiden Wooten’s extra point leveled the game at 7, with seven minutes and 35 ticks left in the opening quarter.  

The Patriots orchestrated another scoring drive capped by a 19 yard strike from Cason Oden to Austyn Holmes to regain the lead but missed the extra point, resulted in a 13-7 Brewer advantage with a little over three minutes remaining in the second quarter. Nevertheless, Knights’ quarterback Drew Puccio answered with a 66 yard touchdown run down the sideline, tying the score at 13. Wooten’s extra point then gave Arab a 14-13 lead late in the first half. Brewer attempted to score once more before the break, but the Knights defense stiffened, holding the Patriots out of the endzone. As a result, Arab entered the locker room with a slim one-point lead.

In the early moments of the third quarter, Puccio connected with Landon Strickland from 27 yards out, extending the Knights lead to 21-13. However, an interception later in the period handed the ball back to the Patriots, offering head coach Matt Plunkett’s squad an opportunity to tie things up.  However, the Knights’ defense rose to the occasion, preventing Brewer from putting any points on the board and preserving an 8-point advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

Arab continued to pose challenges for the Patriots’ offense, and with just under five minutes remaining, Alldredge scored another touchdown, bolting into the endzone, from just outside the Brewer two yard line, pushing the Knights’ lead to 28-13. Brewer struggled to mount a response offensively, allowing Arabian Knights to hold on for a 28-13 victory.

Puccio finished the night with 97 yards on the ground and a score while completing 9-of-17 passes and a touchdown throughout the air for 91 yards.  Alldredge lead the Arab rushing attack with 171 yards on 31 carries and two scores.  

With the win, the Knights stand at 2-0 on the season and will hit the road for a Region 7 clash with the unbeaten Douglas Eagles in week 2.  The 1-1 Patriots will look to bounce back with at road trip to Ardmore (0-2).
