Arab Rolls to 4-0 with a 29-26 win over Sardis

Arab, AL – The Arab Arabian Knights celebrated homecoming by advancing to 4-0 (2-0 in Class 5A, Region 7 play) with a nail-biting 29-26 win over the Sardis Lions Friday night at the Arab City SportsPlex.

The Knights wasted no time making their presence felt. On their first possession, they capped off a solid drive with a Logan Alldredge touchdown run from inside the Lion five yard line. Sardis fought back in the second quarter with a scoring drive of their own, but their extra point attempt got swatted away, keeping the Knights in the lead at 7-6.

Arab’s next drive fell short but a clutch interception by Wyatt Lamar swung the momentum back in Arab’s favor. Unfortunately, the Knights couldn’t cash in, and the Lions capitalized, scoring with less than a minute left in the second quarter, giving the visitors a 14-7 at the break.

Head coach Lee Ozmint’s Knights weren’t about to let this one slip away, though. Midway through the third quarter, Logan Silva bulldozed his way into the end zone from a yard out, tying the game at 14. Sardis answered back with another touchdown pass to regain a 20-14 lead late in the third quarter. But early in the fourth, Silva struck again with his second touchdown run, putting Arab back on top at 21-20.

The Lions weren’t giving up either, mounting another scoring drive to take a 26-21 lead with 10 minutes left. But a dazzling kickoff return by Lamar set the Knights offense up with a shot at a late game comeback.  Cue Logan Silva . The standout running back bolted into the endzone for the third time. He followed up the score by punching in a two-point conversion, effectively putting the game on ice.  Silva finished the game with 95 yards on 18 carries and three scores.  The late game scoring scamper gave Silva three touchdowns for the second consecutive week.  Logan Alldredge lead the Arab rushing attack with 146 yards on 22 attempts and a touchdown.

The Knights, who came into week three sitting just outside the top 10 in Class 5A, will look to remain perfect next Friday night with a road trip to Scottsboro’s Pat Trammell Stadium in a battle of undefeated teams.  Sardis steps out of region play with a trip to Huntsville to take on the winless Columbia Eagles (0-4).
