Briarwood Christian Notches Comeback Victory Over Pelham

Birmingham, AL – Briarwood Christian secured a come from behind 28-21 victory over the Pelham Panthers (2-1, 0-1) Friday night at Lion’s Pride Stadium.  

At the halfway mark, Pelham held a 21-18 lead, but Briarwood’s Josh Thompson orchestrated a stunning turnaround by connecting with Sawyer Click for a 52-yard scoring strike. Garrett Heinemann cemented the Lions’ second-half resurgence with a successful 37-yard field goal.

Thompson’s exceptional performance was highlighted by completing 17-of-21 passes for a total of 203 yards and two touchdowns.  Sawyer Click showcased his receiving prowess by snagging eight passes for a total of 94 yards. 

With the win, Briarwood improves to 2-2 on the season.   Matthew Forester’s Lions hold an unblemished 2-0 mark in Class 6A, Region 3 play, and are ridding a two game winning streak.

On the opposing side, Pelham’s C.J. Tolbert showcased his skills with an impressive performance, snagging five receptions for 171 yards and scoring a pair of touchdowns. Quarterback Clayton Mains finished the night with 256 yards and three scores, completing 18-of-28 passes.

Looking ahead, Briarwood will take the week off before welcoming the 7A Oak Mountain Eagles to Lion’s Pride Stadium on September 29th.  The Panthers will look to bounce back by hosting the undefeated Helena Huskies (4-0, 2-0) next Friday night.
