6th Ranked Vestavia Hills Blanks Oak Mountain 50-0

Vestavia Hills, AL – In a dominant performance, the 6th ranked Vestavia Hills Rebels secured their second shutout victory of the season, knocking off the Oak Mountain Eagles 50-0 Friday night at Thompson Reynolds Stadium. Led by quarterback John Paul Head, the Rebels showcased their offensive firepower, while their defense held Oak Mountain to less than 100 yards in the Class 7A, Region 3 matchup.

Head had an exceptional game, completing 10-of-16 passes for 241 yards and pair of touchdown passes. His first score through the air was a 33-yard connection with Keown Richardson, followed by a 48-yard strike to Bruce Littleton. Head also displayed his rushing ability, running for three touchdowns on 11 carries.

The Rebels’ offense didn’t stop there. Charlie Taafe contributed to the scoring with a 36-yard touchdown pass to Chase Webb, and Caden Taylor added a 2-yard rushing score. Kicker Owen Simpson nailed a 31-yard field goal, adding to Vestavia Hills’ impressive point total – the Rebels highest of the season. 

On the defensive side of the ball, the Rebels were equally dominant. Jordan Ross led the team with five tackles and a sack, while Bo Shea added an interception, further stifling Oak Mountain’s offensive efforts.

For Oak Mountain, it was a tough night as their struggles continued. Quarterback Will Odell completed just one of his 11 pass attempts for 8 yards. The Eagles’ running game managed 90 yards, resulting in a total offensive output of only 98 yards.

With this victory, Vestavia Hills improved to to 6-2 (4-2 in Class 7A, Region 3), while Oak Mountain fell to 1-8 (0-6) after suffering their eighth consecutive loss. Oak Mountain’s defense has unfortunately allowed 50 or more points in their last three games.

Looking ahead, Vestavia Hills travels to Northport to take on region foe Tuscaloosa County (4-4, 2-4), while Oak Mountain concludes their season by welcoming Shelby County Rival Spain Park (5-3, 3-3) to Herdmont Park.
