Mountain Brook Secures AHSAA Class 6A State Volleyball Championship

Birmingham, AL – The Mountain Brook Spartans seized the AHSAA Class 6A state volleyball championship with a 3-1 victory over the Saraland Spartans. Displaying the tenacity that allowed them to shatter Bayside Academy’s record-breaking consecutive state championship streak, the Lady Spartans demonstrated their merit at the finals in Birmingham’s Bill Harris Arena.

The Spartans’ record for the season stands at an impressive 46-5, while Saraland closes out with 40-8. Both teams fought valiantly, however, it was Mountain Brook Spartans who emerged victorious with a 25-15, 25-14, 26-28, 25-15 triumph, securing their seventh state championship since 2014.

The third set was a testament to the skill and determination of both teams. Outstanding plays were made by Mountain Brook’s left-handed outside hitter, Annie Lacey, and Saraland’s hard-hitting Hannah Pearce. Both players finished the match with 10 kills each.

In acknowledging Saraland’s performance, Mountain Brook’s Coach Mattie Gardner stated, “We knew they were going to be an outstanding team. And I want to give them all the credit they deserve. They were a great opponent.”

Mountain Brook’s Hannah Parant earned MVP honors with 35 assists, 10 kills, and 10 digs in the finals. Saraland responded with 37 kills, led by Pearce’s 10 and Lily Willingham’s eight.

As the AHSAA’s 53rd Elite 8 State Championships draw to a close with the final matches in Class 1A, 4A, and 7A, the victorious teams reflect on a season of intense competition and remarkable skill. Mountain Brook’s triumphant campaign is a story of determination, strength, and teamwork, a narrative that will be remembered and celebrated for years to come.
