Scott Rials Takes Over Calera Eagles Football Program

Calera, AL – Alabama coaching veteran Scott Rials has officially been named the Calera Eagles 19th head football coach.

The South Montgomery Academy alum has spent the last four seasons at the helm of the Baldwin County High School football program.  He lead the 6A Tigers to a 14-26 record and a trip to the second round of the Class 6A postseason in 2012.

Prior to making the move to Bay Minette in 2020, he spent five seasons as the head coach at Luverne where he posted a 47-15 mark including five playoff appearances, a region title and a Class 2A runner-up finish in 2018 over five seasons.

He began his coaching career at his alma mater, South Montgomery Academy, spending 10 years as an assistant before being named head coach in 1998.  He lead the Raiders to a combined 45-23 record, four trips to the AISA postseason and a region crown.

After six years at SMA, he took over at Elba where he lead the Tigers to three region titles, eight playoff berths and a Class 2A state championship in 2011.  During his nine year stint at Elba, the Tigers posted a 70-35 record overall.  In 2013 he took the reigns at Satsuma, guiding the Gators to a 9-11 run over two seasons.

A graduate of Auburn University at Montgomery, Rials currently holds a career head coaching record of 185-111 including a Class 2A state title, five region championships, 18 playoff appearances and a 21-17 mark in postseason play over 26 seasons.

Rials takes over for Jared Holder who was elevated to the head coaching position following former head coach Jason Hamlin’s departure to join Wade Waldrop’s staff at Hoover.

Calera is coming off an 0-10 run in 2023.  Rials will be the Eagles fifth head coach since 2018, following current Clemson assistant Andrew Zow (2016-2018), Trey Simpson (2019-2020), Hamlin (2021-2022) and Holder (2023).

Rials is slated to official begin at Calera on January 16th.
