The Vestavia Hills Lady Rebels Snap an 18 Year Losing Streak to Hoover

Vestavia Hills, AL – The Vestavia Hills Lady Rebels (21-3) broke an 18-year losing skid to Hoover with a 43-41 victory over the reigning Class 7A state champion Lady Bucs. The streak snapping victory occurred during a crucial Class 7A, Area 5 matchup last week in Vestavia.

The Lady Bucs dominance over their Over the Mountain rivals was disrupted thanks to the impressive performance of Junior Sarah Gordon, who scored eight points in the final four minutes of the contest, finishing with a game high 18 points.

With the victory, Vestavia Hills sits at the top of Class 7A Area 5 with an unblemished 3-0 mark in Area play. Hoover (16-6) follows at 2-1, Thompson stands at 1-2, and Tuscaloosa County trails at 0-3.

The two teams will square off again on January 23rd in Hoover.

In last week’s game, Hoover managed to close the margin to 35-34, thanks to Kamryn Lee’s basket assisted by Khloe Ford, with just 4:35 left on the clock. However, Gordon scored eight straight points for the Rebels (20-3), extending Vestavia’s lead to 43-36 with 1:57 remaining.

The Lady Bucs battled back late, narrowing the gap to two points with only 18 ticks remaining. This was made possible by Hoover standout Aaliyah Blanchard’s five consecutive points, bringing the score to 43-41.

Blanchard and Ford were the top scorers for the Lady Bucs, each contributing 10 points, while Jill Gaylord added 11 points for Vestavia Hills.
