Arab Dominates Hazel Green 42-7

Hazel Green, AL – The Arab Arabian Knights stepped out of region play Friday night, caping the regular season with an impressive 42-7 victory over the Hazel Green Trojans at Bob Grimwood Stadium.

The win improves head coach Lee Ozmint’s Knights to 7-2 overall, 4-1 in region play.  Hazel Green remains winless on the season at 0-9.

The game started off in favor of the Marshall County champs as quarterback Drew Puccio put the Knights on the board early, sprinting past the Trojans defense for a 26-yard touchdown.

The Knights continued to display their offensive prowess, with Logan Alldredge adding a touchdown run to extend their lead to 14-0. However, Hazel Green fought back and responded with some impressive plays through the air, finding the end zone to narrow the gap to 14-7 at the start of the second quarter.

Undeterred, Arab’s offense kept the momentum going and orchestrated another scoring drive, culminating in a 6-yard touchdown pass from Puccio to Luke Hudson. The score put the visitors up 21-7 midway through the second quarter.

As the clock winded down in the first half, the Knights capitalized on a Trojans fumble, recovering the ball at their own 36-yard line. They methodically moved down the field, and Alldredge crossed the goal line for his second touchdown of the night.

After the break, the Knights faced some resistance from the Trojan defense but eventually found success again. Puccio connected with Dylan Kirkland on a scoring strike from just inside the Hazel Green 10 yard line, further widening Arab’s lead to 35-7.

With the game well in hand, Arab sealed the victory in the fourth quarter with Preston Pritchett’s first touchdown of the season.

Arab, Guntersville and Scottsboro are locked in a three way tie for the top spot in Region 7 with each team standing at 4-1 in region play.  With Guntersville’s Friday night victory over Sardis, the determination will go to the AHSAA’s Tiebreaker N (due to uneven games) to determine the region title and playoff seeding.  PrepsNet projects that the Knights will take the No. 3 spot, setting up a road matchup with the Leeds Green Wave, November 10th in the first round of the AHSAA Class 5A playoffs.

Hazel Green will close out their 2023 campaign at Milton Frank Stadium against the 7A Huntsville Panthers (4-5, 3-4).
