No. 7 Mountain Brook Tops Gardendale in High Scoring Region Matchup

Gardendale, AL – In a high octane Class 6A, Region 5 matchup, the Mountain Brook Spartans (7-2, 5-1) lit up the Driver Stadium scoreboard, defeating the Gardendale Rockets (3-6, 3-3) with a final score of 56-42. 

Led by standout performances from running back Cole Gamble and quarterback John Cooper, Mountain Brook proved to be a force to be reckoned with. Gamble ran for an impressive 276 yards and found the end zone five times, while Cooper connected on three touchdown passes.

The game began with Gardendale’s Mac Beason making an impact early, throwing a 14-yard touchdown pass to Morgan Harris, giving the Rockets a 7-0 lead. However, Mountain Brook quickly responded as Cooper connected with Clark Sanderson for a touchdown, leveling the score at 7-all. The first quarter continued to see a back-and-forth battle, with Milaki Handy and Boogie Harris finding the end zone for Gardendale, countered by Gamble’s touchdown run.

As the game progressed, Mountain Brook seized control, capitalizing on Cooper’s arm and Gamble’s impressive rushing performance. Cooper’s elusiveness allowed him to find JC Adams for a 35-yard touchdown, giving the Spartans a lead they would not relinquish. Gamble’s multiple scoring runs were key to securing the hard fought road victory for head coach Chris Yeager’s Spartans. .

Both teams have secured playoff spots, with Mountain Brook claiming the second seed and Gardendale securing the fourth spot in Region 5.   In the first round of the AHSAA post season, Mountain Brook will welcome the Buckhorn Bucks (5-4) to Spartan Stadium.  Gardendale will travel to Region 8 champion Gadsden City (7-3) when the playoffs get underway on November 10th.  

Next week, Mountain Brook will welcome the Baker Hornets (7-2), ranked No. 8 in class 7A,  to Spartan Stadium.  Gardendale will close out the regular season with at road trip to Hueytown (6-3).
