AHSAA Reclassification 2.0: Class and Region Alignments Adjusted Due to Reporting Error

Montgomery, AL – Due to an error in the holdback/promotion portion of the ADM data reported from the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE),  the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) has made some adjustments to the Classification data that was initially released on Monday. 

Upon recalculating the data and confirming the error, the AHSAA proceeded to amend the classification of four schools: Brooks, Anniston, J.B. Pennington, and Winfield. The new assignments place Brooks and Anniston, originally in Class 5A, into Class 4A. J.B. Pennington and Winfield, initially classified under Class 4A, have been moved to Class 3A.

AHSAA Executive Director Alvin Briggs stated, “The ALSDE regrets the error and we apologize to our member schools.”

The correction impacts several region lineups across football, volleyball, and cross country in Class 5A, Class 4A, and Class 3A. However, the alignments for flag football and swimming & diving remain unaffected by these changes.

The Central Board of Control convened virtually on Tuesday to approve these modifications.
